In December 2024 Deakin University’s Distinguished Professor of Global Change, Environment, and Society, Brett Bryan and Climateworks Program Impact Manager in charge of the Land Use Futures program Jo Sanson joined NRM regions 'In the Tent' webinar series to present on their Land Use Trade-Offs model (LUTO 2).
The Land Use Trade-Offs v.2 model (LUTO2) is a world-leading spatial model that identifies how best to optimise land use and management practices to meet domestic and international agricultural demand, while also meeting climate and biodiversity targets and staying within water use limits.
LUTO2 is open source and has been developed through a collaboration between Deakin University and Climateworks Centre, with research contributions from CSIRO.
LUTO2 equips policy-makers, target-setters and regional planners with insights to envision what a sustainable, resilient future looks like for Australia’s land and agriculture sector and what changes are required to achieve this future.
