Korg EMX piece, used two cameras, Nikon D5100 (top view) and Canon 60D (side view). Enjoy :)
I know, I know... if it's not the Korg Volca series, or the other latest and greatest, no one is going to give a sh*t...

I found you when I was looking at MC 808 tracks and then started to listen to all your electric tracks. Love your groove. Now I want an EMX too. Friend had one when they first came out and never saw it used to full potential like you do. Great job man.
@MIDERA
@MIDERA 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Hah - those MC808 tracks... I tried so hard to love that thing, but in the end, I couldn't. I haven't written music like this in quite a while. I should get back into writing more upbeat tracks. The EMX is great. I used to hate it. And you'll see in some of my early videos with it I was trying to justify keeping it. Turns out that it was worth hanging onto.
@xmodrecordshypersyncrecord843
@xmodrecordshypersyncrecord843 7 жыл бұрын
I was thinking of using the MC 808 mainly for more background sounds and fills and stuff. My main beats come from the TR-8 and synth parts form my Virus TI, JP8000, and Fantom. So was just thinking of having some nice pads or blip and bleeps and stuff running in the back. We will see what happens with it.
@MIDERA
@MIDERA 7 жыл бұрын
It had nice sounds - but because you really needed a computer to get in depth editing, I decided it wasn't worth keeping. Consider the MC-505 or MC-909 instead. The 909 sounds great (as good as the 808) but you can actually do all the editing within the unit itself. It is considerably bigger though.
@xmodrecordshypersyncrecord843
@xmodrecordshypersyncrecord843 7 жыл бұрын
I had the 909 but some of the buttons didnt work and was too bulky. I had a 505 years ago. I will see what I can do with the 808 and then maybe add the EMX eventually. I am going to use the MC 808 as a slave and trigger it with my MX-1 which is my clock for all my gear.
@MIDERA
@MIDERA 7 жыл бұрын
My unit too had some buttons that didn't work. It's a really easy fix, there's a conductive paste you can put on it to make them work again. I don't recall the exact name of it - I can find out. But I fixed tons of 'bad' pads this way - heck, cleaning them with isopropyl alcohol would probably be sufficient, but it sounds like you no longer have the MC-909 so it's likely irrelevant. Good luck! The 808 sounded great, just wasn't for me!

@MIDERA
@MIDERA 4 жыл бұрын
@@TheMike255 I am not sure I'd recommend it. Personally I feel the EMX doesn't sound THAT good. I think there are a lot of great options out there today that would be more interesting personally. I bought it originally to replace my Korg Radias which I had sold regrettably but then repurchased. I have used it as a drum machine pretty well, but honestly, I'd rather have a Monomachine (which I understand is a lot more expensive, but is a FAR better machine). EMX is ok, and if you get it at a cheap price, it's probably worth it. Even still - I think I'd rather have an MC-303 and that's saying something!

Magnificent! Question? Aside from sampling capability, which would (any of) you prefer between EMX and RS7000? At least in terms of sound quality (if not fuller range of features on RS7K)...Thanks again for great music!
@MIDERA
@MIDERA 6 жыл бұрын
I think sound quality is way higher in the RS7K - for sure. FX are really well done. That said, I think if you told me I could only keep one of them, I might go for the EMX - it's a bit more versatile. I use it currently as a drum machine and the FX section for that is pretty good. I rarely turn my RS7K on because it's so complex. The EMX has some immediacy that's really fun and inspiring. Perhaps if I got to know my RS7K more I would prefer it, but some quirky things make me frustrated. Honestly, I should sell it I use it so rarely. I have no desire to ever sell my EMX - it has been my favorite groovebox (except for the Spectralis 2 - that is by far the most amazing synth/groovebox I own). The RS7K is a ROMpler (but sounds good w/FX), the EMX is a synthesizer with drum samples. I won't comment on which is better in that sense. The EMX does require some work making it sound good, and the reverb on it is the biggest piece of crap I've heard. I'd go for the EMX anyway.

ehj i have a problem with my emx 1 smart media. the EG time keeps on changing very often in the main screen, while i'm not using any knobs. do you know how to fix that.?QE
@MIDERA
@MIDERA 7 жыл бұрын
+QUEEN ELIZABETHI not sure - I would first start with replacing the battery, or see if there's anyone else online with this problem. Sorry I can't be more helpful. Another thing is that maybe you need to clean the EG time knob. Like with de-oxit spray, or replace the knob entirely (last resort). I would guess spraying the encoder knob with de-oxit is a good first step.

I am having a hard time.. Looking at a Mc909. Rs7000 or this Korg, but witch one should I pick up ? I wanna do House/electro ?
@MIDERA
@MIDERA 5 жыл бұрын
Well, I have had all 3. I kept the EMX and the RS7000. I think the MC-909 had the best sound engine, but I think the RS7000 has the sequencer on it and easiest to use sampler. So, for ease of use (and 'fun' factor): EMX > MC-909 > RS7000 For sound quality: MC-909 > RS7000 > EMX For sequencer capabilities (and ease of creating good complete songs): RS7000 > MC-909 > EMX For Style/looks: MC909 = EMX > RS7000 Size (biggest to smallest): MC-909 > RS7000 > EMX I guess I don't know what exactly you mean to do with 'House/electro' - can you send me an example of exactly what you want to do? I get the genres, but I also think it's pretty broad. Personally, I just think the RS7000 is the best, but it is a bit confusing and can be daunting. The fact that you can mix up the drum sequences LIVE is pretty sweet. It's by far the best of the three. But the EMX does have such an easy interface, you're limited to mono synth parts, and I don't think the sound engine is particularly THAT good... it's ok at best. You won't get really good pads or anything out of it (you could with the others). I have examples of all three of these synths. Check out some of my other videos on them to get a feel for what I did with them.

@MIDERA
@MIDERA 5 жыл бұрын
Hi - I have no idea. To be honest, I find the EMX1 very noisy and I’m often discouraged working with mine. As a drum machine, I think it’s good, but would prefer the ESX. The internal synthesis engine does not feel extremely good to me, and it is only monophonic. I think I would prefer the E2, but I haven’t used one. I’d rather have an Elektron A4/AK. The EMX is usually just sitting off to the side these days.

Is it possible to connect a keyboard to this machine? Instead of playing on it you play a bigger keyboard?
@MIDERA
@MIDERA 8 жыл бұрын
+Jan Martin Ulvåg Yes, you can connect a keyboard via MIDI. However, each synth part is monophonic, so unless you do some crazy MIDI routing, you're unlikely to get a 5-voice polyphonic part. There is software that allows for this, but I'd personally rather not use a computer with my synthesizers.
