As someone who has had multiple abusive and toxic relationships, I can completely relate to this song. I went through so much that even when I would find myself in a decent relationship, I would run from it because I didn't know how to react to it. After a lot of growing and healing, I have finally learned to be at peace with my past and do my best not to allow it to taint my present. I know what you mean. As the youngest of 9 it traumatized me to witness my mom being struck by my dad those are some of my ealiest memories but it haunts me now in my 60's. But people can be blinded by their love and unaware that negative actions radiate like ripples on water and splash against all who love and care for them. They don't realize how it affects their babies who are too small and weak to stop the abuse. Often teaching them the worst way to behave and poisons/sabotages their future relationships as adults. A repeating cycle of trauma and abuse through generations.

On another comment where the op talked about a woman who was abused an ended up leaving him for her abuser, most responses were that she's the asshole and he deserves better. This song reminds me myself when I was 13 and in a relationship with some guy who raped me (he was 20 years old at that time).
