The Nicole Kidman remake was given a new ending because the test audience said the ending was too bleak and Paramount wanted a summer comedy blockbuster, lol. I remember the movie getting absolutely vicious reviews from critics. The director was an A-lister whose career was wrecked because he did exactly what the studio wanted. Hollywood executives are just evil, lol.
