Nice Comeback at 11:00 when he states the cross is idol worship in chirches, what is JW.ORG on the side of Kingdom Halls, pins, bookbags, t-shirts? "You're quoting a lot of Scriptures but it doesn't 'mean' anything!". Wow! Even when I was deep into JW I never said anything that convoluted because I was taught the Bible is fundamentally our base and crux for beliefs. The Borg has made even ardent JW's lazy-minded with "just go to JW.Org" or we'll come to your house, sit down, and dictate the terms of "Bible study" based on JW narrative of "assumption/presumption" thinking. BTW, I remember this magazine cover distinctly and presenting this in field service in a very diverse area of Chicago. I think in retrospect it was strategically put out shortly after the David Koresh/Branch Davidian Cult compound destruction in Waco, TX. Clearly designed to assuage peoples fears and concerns about JW's being classified as a cult in the Bethel Writing Department's methodology and to continue sifting through the black community. I had a work colleague who told me "you have a large black constituency in the Chicago area" back in the 1990s.

Make no mistake, Bridget, when you get off the phone with you, after they hang up on you, they are VERY disturbed by the things you tell them. It stays with them and I'm positive you're waking people up. They NEED these kinds of confrontations because it jolts them out of their hypnosis for a moment and they feel that cognitive dissonance. Wow, I never heard anyone be so deceptive while I was a JW. Why must someone lie about their true and righteous religion? - Once many years ago while I was out in service with an elder, the person asked us if we were a religion. Shockingly the elder said no. He said we were a publishing company. I was 14 and had never heard anyone say that before. But now I know that the elder was so correct, they are only a publishing company that has tricked their employees and distributors to work for free. Except now they are branching out as a real estate company.

Great job Bridget...I really like your style. I absolutely hate it when the Witness has to get defensive & eventually write you off as an apostate. As a suggestion and what might help to get the JWs to be more respectful and take you serious ...mention to them that your husband is an active JW and your an unbelieving mate considering studying with the Witnesses. He said “I’ve made this choice to be here”, meaning to be a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses. They truly believe their faith is a decision they have made. The Bible says in your sin you were saved. This isn’t something you decide on your own to do. Research the Bible how many times it refers to God making the change. You will be amazed. Even the disciples were chosen by Christ. The sons of Zebedee didn’t just see Christ and decide on their own to follow him. Being born again is a condition of the heart, changed by God from stone to flesh. This is why they are satisfied with not being born again. Their beliefs, and understanding of who they are in relation to Christ is a decision THEY made. Not the other way around. So sad.

Notice how even though the man is a JW, he says many of the same things the followers of other non-Christian religions and even non-religious people say. For example, he said, "we all have free will" - even though they were not discussing free will. Human autonomy is so relevant to the subject of faith and salvation, and so he brings it up like a reflex. Another example of this was "Faith without works is dead", a phrase many religious people quote from the book of James if you ever imply that it's not our own righteousness that merits a right relationship with God. I guess my point is that the issue of the gospel tends to bring up a few key topics, whoever you're presenting the gospel to.

HA! The first thing the JW bro thinks of is "apostates" when you tell him about the talk outline with "only those with Jehovah's organization will get life" from 1991. I didn't give or use that outline for my own public talks but like Joe/# 4747 said it was definitely in the repertoire as I heard it given at my Hall in the 45-minute format. For the last five years the Sunday talks are reduced to 30 minutes long. The mindset of the early '90s was "this generation of 1914 will not pass away until these things occur" so "get in, get baptized, get saved". There was no way this world as we knew it could continue in the 1990s, then 9/11/2001 happened - this "has to be the end". 17 years later we're still here.

I did borrow your approach that i'm in a bible discussion group & we've been researching some disturbing information from your magazines that say it's only JW's that will have a chance of living on earth in this paradise you speak of. Oh no,,he says, that's not true at all, where did you get that from, you can't ever be sure of the Internet, aspostates, bitter etc etc the whole 9 yards. So I say - goodness that's a relief becasue there a moral clean living Christians that love God & live ther lives according all over the world. Turns out he's a elder & he eventually says after going round the fences, people who love Jeh. & use his name will be saved. I say, so do mean that only JW's will be saved, what about all the people in many countries that don't even know the name Jeh. men woman children & babies - then the classic why did you come here today, are you looking for a argument, what's your point. Time to put the hood on the cart & head off. So next time, I'll have all the watchtower mags. & the quotes on the I pad to pull out at lightening speed. What this really brings out about JWs is that fact that they put so much weight on the organization, and not on Jesus Christ. You asked a perfect question about what the gospel is, and he goes on a pre-written talk about choosing the right organization. Where in the Bible does it say to choose an organization? He never answers that question. The entire Bible is talking about choosing Christ, not an organization. I love how calm you are able to remain while this man has plugged ears. But if other JWs hear this, maybe that will open some eyes while they don't feel like they are in the hot seat.
