The 4th ranked Gators travel to Knoxville to take on the 9th ranked Volunteers. Verne Lundquist and Todd Blackledge have the call for CBS. I do not own anything in this video.

As a gators fan gaffney's catch was controversial, but there was still 14 seconds on the clock so florida would've had at least 2 more plays to score if the pass was ruled incomplete

Looks to me like Gaffney catches the pass, has possession for about 1 second, and then is stripped by UT players right hand. IN the open field, that's a fumble. In the endzone, that's a TD....

Let's not get carried away. Sure that call was horrible, but so was the call four years later. If penalties are reviewable in 2004 then Florida has another win against Tennessee. You see how that works?

Yes it was. But I don't feel bad at all because of an even worse piece of officiating 4 years later that worked the other way. Also, that was second and goal. Tennessee can't say it cost them the game because the Gators had a chance to either win it on third down or tie it with a field goal on fourth down.

While I don't think that was a TD at the end, Tennessee's inability to score TDs first half and get a substantial lead plus giving up a 90 yd drive (TD or not) in the last 2 minutes shows they didn't deserve the W.

I just now, 20 years later, watched the replay of Gaffney's TD at the end. I didn't realize how obvious the drop was. What was the official thinking ? If you had video reviews back then, that call would have been reversed easily.
@DudeEggs Жыл бұрын
If you see the front angle it's a catch with two feet down in the end zone which is immediately knocked out of his hands by the defender. It likely stands as called after review.
@carltonreese180410 жыл бұрын
The TD call for Gaffney was wrong, but the ineligible receiver call on Caldwell's game-winning TD several plays before was completely bogus. Watch the replay in slow motion and you will see no ineligible players downfield at all. Game ended as it should have.
@djrockytopjones11 жыл бұрын
If replay was available in 2000 Tennessee has another win against Florida. That's by far the worst call in college football history. Any fan from either team can admit that. But in a way it was good it just adds to the rivalry. Tennessee and Florida is my favorite rivalry by far.
