Watch out for those asterina stars with zoa's! There is a lot of mixed information on the internet, most of which that says asterina stars are of no harm. However, I used to have about a 1 ft diameter rock for years that was covered with zoa's where the zoa's slowly melted away until there were none left. For years after that, any attempt to put zoa's in the tank would end the same way, slowly melting away within a month or two. I had hundreds of astorina stars in my tank, but was always under the impression that they were of no harm. I found a few articles saying that certain types were bad, and the astorina stars were just about the only unknown left in the tank. So I got a harlequin shrimp, and manually removed as many as I could. Now, I am as 100% asterina free as I will ever be, and the zoa's I bought since then have been growing very well. The type of astorina is that I had were white with a dark blue or gray pattern in the same shape as the starfish. Use your own judgment, but I am extremely anti-astorina starfish ever since that experience. Thank you for your video! Great tank layout, and really appreciate the shared information.

It's hard to resist that clownfish + nem relationship! With all the risk, I'd most likely still always have a clownfish + nem combo in one of my tanks... may just have to be smart about the nem placement and be prepared to swap it out as it outgrows the space!

I never knew there was chemical warfare between corals until we had a couple of torches try to nuke each other in a 75gal mixed tank. One of the losers was a 2 headed torch that looked great the day before and then bang one head melted into gel. I was able to shear the good head off and save it ,but made the mistake of keeping it in the same tank. Did a carbon change, but sadly it only lasted another week in the tank. Should have moved it into another tank.

Hi do you have any tips for Xenia? I struggle to get mine growing and also it stops pulsing after a few days of putting it in the tank. Thanks in advance
@InappropriateReefer2 жыл бұрын
They like nutrient rich water, so the dirtier the water, typically the happier they are. 😂 In terms of pulsing, this one is trickier.. the pulsing motion is supposedly getting the water to pass through the tentacles so the coral could capture what it needs, so the less flow Xenia gets, the more obvious the pulsing. However, I have noticed in my tanks that sometimes the water may be lacking "something," and once I started dosing, Xenias in the tank would start pulsing in that system. I honestly cannot tell you rather it was a certain elements, or it was nutrients that helped got mine going in my case though. Sorry if I am not of more help, maybe someone else could jump in here.
