Am I the only one who thinks that River’s ‘Who do you think is in there?’ Is a very appropriate and valid question? After all, this is a brand new person coming in to the world. Who is it going to be? Great question in my opinion.

@@gregweatherup9596 Right. I would guess it's an genuine (though deeply philosophical) question out of curiosity, just delivered in her weird way. Somehow similar to how she "connected" with the cows from ep. 4 and 5, saying that they remember who they are when the saw sky. The baby at that point don't know what it is yet.

@@TommygunNG She wasn't simply crying because Mal slept with someone, she was crying because she never felt able to admit her feelings to him (for complex reasons, not all of which were able to be explored before the show was cancelled). She sees her role as a companion as just a job, entirely different from any kind of romantic relationship but can't quit because it's essentially all she's ever known.

That was very insightful BCP. I think you may have the right of it there. After all these years of watching Firefly, you have allowed me to look at that scene in a different light. I'm not sure exactly where I fall on the whole thing, but that is an awesome way to see it. Thank you for making it new again.

11:58 no doubt childbirth is disturbing. It’s something I’m glad I’ll never have to go through. I do remember my daughter’s birth. It wound up being an emergency cesarean. The worst part was my wife could see everything they were doing from a reflection off of the OR equipment. However, all of that discomfort and pain is forgotten in the joy that comes from the child, even when they become rebellious teenagers (as we’re dealing with now).

Ah, most of this episode is a bit meh for me, but does have a few good moments. When Kaylee is down about being lonely, Wash says one of his funniest lines, "Were I unwed, I would take you in a manly fashion." And watching KZbin reactors in that final scene with Mal and Inara is comedy gold sometimes. "Oh, here it is! They're finally going to say it. Say it, Inara!" (Inara's announcement) "DAMMIT!!" And you expressed that very well that it is the nature of her career that gets in the way of their feelings. Mal is too traditional and couldn't stand to be in a relationship with someone who is continually sleeping around with other people. Inara understands that, but isn't willing to give up her career to be with him.

"Heart of Gold": The last of three episodes that Fox TV DIDN'T broadcast. Inara gets a distress call from an old friend, Jayne loudly objects until he discovers what's in the house, Mal tries to "keep it all business." Simon gets to be a Primary, Kaylee notes the boy whores, and Shepherd Book's services are requested. The crew and the house turn the house into a fort, Zoe and Wash consider reproduction, and Mal goes to town to assess the threat. Mal returns and it's time to run, Nandi isn't running, and Mal "gets his tires rotated."

You hoping they they will "smooch" is... a standard reaction, but we should have learned by now that we'll never get what we want... when we want it. The tease, the unfulfilled hopes... pretty standard for Joss and Firefly. At least for you there is the movie, and decades of "back story" that came out for you to experience after the show. Originally fans had... silence.

I mean, Jayne is not exactly a gentleman, but on the other hand, he is willing to risk his life for a little sex. Kinda doubt the usual clientele would do that ... So again, many many flaws, but from a certain perspective he is not that bad. Is still wonder what his character would have been like if we had at least 5 seasons.

How did he know she was about to give birth? The snitch. How does he know it's a boy? Either the DNA, or the snitch Would he keep a girl baby? Why not? His wifrle can't get pregnant so this is his only way to have kids. He has a laser gun now? Yes. He showed it to Mal when they met. "Isn't she beautiful." I wonder who's in there? The person the baby will become. Wash was trappened in the engine bay snd said they are going nowhere as he, not Kaylee, is a pilot. She can fix it. She doesn't know how to fly it. We have seen Inara show enotion. She was clearly angry in "Our Mrs. Reynolds" when smshe learned he was married. Then scared when he was passed out and she kissed him.

Out of all of the 14 episodes, this one is my least favorite. However, Nandi was correct, Inara, like Mal doesn't like complications, therefore any relationship between them would complicate everything from how the crew would react to how the ship and their "jobs" would go.

Pan for season 2 THAT WAS ABANDONED AND NOT CANON FOR THE MOVIE:: Inara had inoperable space cancer or whatever (Simon knew and was alleviating symptoms). She avoided any emotional ties - first at the temple, then Serenity. An episode they were going to have: They are close to but not in orbit around a world and Inara is off on business. They are attacked by reavers, but manage to escape in the other shuttle and the radio is damaged somehow. As they leave they watch in horror as Inara docks with Serenity. They get help and we learn that needle was not to commit suicide, it turned her mucus into a contact poison. With a "sane" person raping her it is like Ben Gay on your weiner and you stop. With a Reaver they rape her until they die. Then the next one starts. When they return with help, all the Reavers are dead in a pile in Inara's shuttle and Inara is in the fetal position and crying. Inara stays on board and does not ply her trade. NONE of that happened before, after, or during the movie.

12:31 "What makes you think it's even a boy.. did the DNA-test tell you that?" Dunno if you meant it to sound like it did, but the way it came out was (to quote Jayne here) truly "high-larious" 😂 This, together with you bravely suffering Jayne as this show's most politically incorrect character (definitely to today's ❄🌈standards), is just peak entertainment. So ty for another highly enjoyable reaction to my all time fav TV-series. Cheers from Amsterdam!

Naw - she's crying because she can no longer deny her feelings for him, and knows that he couldn't be with her (because of his attitude towards her "whoring" thanks to his conservative upbringing) as long as she continues to follow her vocation, and it IS more than just a job to her. So she has to choose - give up her vocation or leave the ship so as not to prolong either of their suffering being so close without being together. Feel sorry for both of them.
