So glad i came across your videos. Im on day 3 and good thing its a weekend because id probably be at my orthodontist office debating having this removed. But everyone seems to agreed its worth it in the end. The back tongue sore is driving me nuts. And i swear im not using the wax correctly. Im definitely going to by that liquid. But also, eating with the turbos is just odd. But probably because im trying to soon. Regardless, thank you for sharing. I see this journey a little better now.

Just make a small ball of wax (about half a pea size is what I liked) and firmly press it for a few seconds on whatever metal you feel is causing the sore until it sticks in place. It should give you a lot of relief, I used a lot wax for the the first week or so. I probably didn’t chew anything until about week 2-3 largely due to the bite turbos 😅. I drank a ton of protein shakes, green drinks, non-chunky soups…

This was really reassuring, thank you! I just got gen 2 yesterday and started to panic a bit with how intense all the metal feels in my mouth. My tongue isn't just in pain, but is so uncomfortable because it can't escape all of the metal - even at rest, it's in constant contact with the (sharp, bulky) metal. It's crazy what we take for granted. I work with elderly patients so I've been worried about the lisping. While I already feel it is better today, it's hard to imagine it will ever sound normal. It looks like you're now on week 6 - how are things going? I'm concerned about eating. Pain aside, the bulkiness of the braces feel so overwhelming that I can't imagine I'd be able to chew *anything* from that alone. Do you get used to it?

I know what you’re going through… the first few days were absolutely horrible; I was wishing that I just went with the traditional style braces. But by around day 5 things just started getting a lot better for me. My lisp is pretty much gone now; I’ve learned that slowing down my speech and opening my mouth wider when talking has helped. You also learn to just use words that are easier to pronounce when possible. Wax was a godsend for the first couple of days when talking hurt my tongue. Chewing has gotten better for me too although it’s still a bit challenging. My orthodontist put “bite turbos” on a bottom molar on both sides that only allow me to bite up and down; it was very uncomfortable at first but I’ve learned to eat slower, take smaller bites, and sometimes just swallow foods less thoroughly chewed than I used to be able to. I didn’t really attempt to eat anything solid until like 2 weeks after installation 😅 Hope this helps!

Thank you for this video. I am getting inbrce at the end of the month. I know you switched to clear aligners. I decided that was not for me because I have ADHD and would probably have problems with compliance.

You’re welcome! Yeah Invisalign has been great for me but it really depends on if you can make them work with your lifestyle or not. There’s gonna be some drawbacks with every choice 🤷🏻‍♂️

Thanks for making this video. I read somewhere that it could take 4 to 6 weeks to adjust and that really scared me. But if it’s only about one week, then I may be able to do this. 😅

Did you not have any bite turbos placed on your back molars? I got inbrace in February so a few months before you it seems. The bite turbos I got put on day 1 and stops you from biting off your braces. Also, the speech definitely gets better! I don’t have any lisp anymore and I was worried for a little bit it wouldn’t go away after like a month

Yeah I forgot to mention the bite turbos in the video; they were so uncomfortable at first but I kinda learned how to chew with them after a few weeks. I only drank smoothies and ate yogurt for the first ~2 weeks… At this point my lisp is almost gone, big relief 😅

Commenting to help your engagement! Thanks for the tips and your experience, really helps to hear someone else. On day 3 and was starting to question my choice and if I could do this for over a year, especially with the speech alteration and mouth obstructions! How long is your timeline for completion and do you just go back every 8 weeks?

Happy that I could help! I feel your pain… around that point I was wishing I just went with traditional braces, but not anymore haha. I actually had my follow up visit a few weeks ago at the 8 week mark; they said to come back in another 12 weeks to have the wire changed. I think the planned timeline is around 9-12 months

Your video is very inspirational! I had my linguals put in about 9 days and i had to go in on day 8 to get some wires clipped as my tongue was cut open. So a day later the pain is gone! The only issue is a bit of a lisp especially the s sound. I keep reading that rainbow passage stuff and to me when i record my voice it sounds better than it does than what my ears are picking up. Will it improve more or am I stuck with this lisp thing

I’m glad that your pain has improved! I think it took around a month or so before my lisp improved to where it wasn’t noticeable by other people; it doesn’t go away completely but only you yourself will notice it really. For difficult words to pronounce I learned to say them a little slower and open my mouth more

Happy I could help! I feel your pain… It’s gotten a lot better since my tongue stopped hurting; no one really notices unless I point it out to them and they listen closely. I’ve learned that talking a little slower and opening my mouth wider helps my pronunciation. I think singing (alone in my car lol) has helped too

Sorry for getting back to you so late, I’m guessing you’re over the discomfort by now. I forgot to mention that the metal is heat activated so it does get tighter with hot liquids. The discomfort went away for me after maybe 2 weeks; it couldn’t stop me from having hot coffee in the morning haha
