Incandescent and Halogen Lamps

Is there a difference in the _quality_ of the light emitted? I love the soft, warm quality of incandescent lighting. I refuse to buy eco-friendly light bulbs because the quality of light is so depressing. They are dystopian. Are halogen lamps a better version of incandescent lamps in terms of light quality? Or are they worse?

Best bulbs 💡, LEDS and CFLS have too much blue light which can cause insomnia, and CFLs have high Mercury levels and can cause cancer. Safe bet are tungsten or halogen incandescent light bulbs 💡.

I've bought many halogen, and you can get still incandestent in some shops, when EU banned them. I have supply for 10 years. Also dont like led light. For me, incandestent is nicest. Halogen is little more bright and white, but it's still ok. I dont'care about more energy. The most important is for me healthy and natural light.

@Phil Jermakian I've been wondering if there's any bulbs that produce a candle effect? The only reason we incadescent light fans don't go candles like in mideval times is due to the risk of fire.

To me the best light bulb will always be the sun. Free, infinite (almost) life time and great quality light.

But don't use them horizontally. The filament will stick into the glass. This will last for 100 hours or so.

I bought Philips 28 watt halogen bulbs for the chandelier over my dining table. I have now had 4 lamps fail the same way after 20 minutes. The outer glass bulb breaks away from the metal base due to overheating and shatters into my dinner. The internal halogen bulb keeps working but the mounting wires are exposed posing a 240 volt shock hazard. The box says made in Poland but the bulb is marked as made in China. I will never buy another Philips light bulb.

do not use it if the outer envelope broke - halogen bulbs emit quite a lot of UV radiation which is normally absorbed by the outer envelope

Assuming both lamps are the same wattage, the regular incandescent will produce more heat. If both draw 100w of power, then they both put out the same quantity of energy, be it light or heart. So a 100w incandescent may produce 5w of light, and 95w of heat. A halogen may produce 8w of light and 92w of heat. However, given the fact that halogen lamps are often much smaller, they get a higher surface temperature, as the similar amount of heat is spread over a smaller surface area.

Don't forget that incandescent and halogen lamps are dimmable if there is something that LEDs lack it's dimmability but longevity is big when compared to incandescent and halogen lamps but let's not forget that LEDs cannot be used in enclosed fixtures because it makes them fail early while incandescent and halogen lamps don't have a problem being enclosed for extended periods since they don't contain any plastic components the way LEDs do.

@@spyrosbellos2522 yes some LEDs I have some but never really tested to see how they dim I heard they are not dimmer friendly as many people said they don't give useful light on the dim setting I heard they flicker and produce headaches plus i heard some fail more often than incandescent light bulbs when used with dimmers.
