I'd chalk it up to this being Cyrodil and not Valenwood, the Bosmer living there are more likely to be willing to ditch their usual racial norms in favor of Imperial traditions and customs.

The quest: Wes Johnson sends to you get rid of Wes Johnson because he keeps interfering into Wes Johnson's plans to undo the curse. And Wes Johnson is obsessed with finding out where Wes Johnson is hiding. But Wes Johnson doesn't like random killings, so you can't just shoot Wes Johnson with your bow. So you find a homeless Wes Johnson and ask him (under the watchful eye of a Wes Johnson guard) where you can find Wes Johnson who can fake a letter that causes Wes Johnson to become guard captain in another town. Which succeeds. Sadly the new guard captain Wes Johnson plans to continue Wes Johnson's search for Wes Johnson. It becomes even more dramatic if you play as the male imperial Wes Johnson.

The "Stranger" making you pay for the forging is both in-character for a thieves guild quest, and frustrating as all hell later down the story. Like... Yeah, that's fair, I should have expected that, but also >:[

If I remember correctly, the voice actors had to run through the lines in alphabetical order, so I don’t think they had any context for anything the were really saying anyways, despite what tone/notes were written on the script. Especially when they voiced to many characters hard to know who is who and what is what. Hard to blame the V/a’s when Bethesda made a boneheaded move to do ALPHABETICAL ORDER.

@@chrisstorrer I've been playing ESO for some time now and while the game is not considered canon, they do try hard to make the zones and quests lore-friendly and engaging. The fundamentals are easy enough to pick up and since you can be in up to five guilds, you can learn from several sources how to play. Overall the community is quite nice, at least until you go into PVP territory lol.

I honestly always kind of liked Lex. Sure, he's an "antagonist" for this guild, but he's one of the few truly honest guards who genuinely wants to make the Imperial City a better place; his obsession with the Fox is just getting in the way of that. I think that it would have been really fun to have a short quest line where we teamed up with him to take down the Thieves' Guild (kind of like that one-off mission in Skyrim with the Dark Brotherhood). And about the whole "cousin" thing: I'm pretty sure that TES lore states that a child's race is determined by the mother. So, maybe her mother was a Bosmer and her father was an Imperial. The father could have had a sibling whose child was Langley then. That would still make them cousins despite one being human and the other an elf. That said, the idea of it all being a lie to hide their affairs and their true secret motive for moving him ahead makes more sense (or at least is less uncomfortable to believe).

A lot of people in Anvil appear to be mixed-race, like the one guard who is coded Imperial but uses Redguard skin tones. So, it makes sense that Dairihil could be half-Imperial. Maybe her father and Langley's father are brothers, both Imperials, and Dairihil's mother was a Bosmer. In Tamriel, for some reason, you have your mother's race but traits of your father.

I must have missed something, but where does it actually say that they are cousins? Langley is already the captain of the guard, but he’s getting fired and darihill is trying to get her cousin promoted to the position, so that would mean her cousin is Langley’s replacement.

At times I wonder if someone working at Bethesda during Oblivion's development had a deep-seated hatred towards Bosmers or something. Seriously, the sheer amount of annoying, stupid, selfish and pathetic Bosmer characters in Oblivion is ridicilous, and Dairihill is _yet another._ I'm literally struggling to remember bosmer characters that I actually didn't want to stab in the face on first contact. 🤣

If they did, they successfully spread it to me. Because I have _hated_ Bosmer ever since seeing how they turned them into nothing more than pointy-eared halflings for Oblivion. I loved them in Morrowind. Oblivion broke my heart in that regard.

It kinda started in Morrowind, with Fargoth the sneaky bosmer, squaring away his ring of healing and other goods in that hollow stump. Then there's Gaenor from the Tribunal expansion. No matter how much gold you give him previously, the moment you refuse to pay him, he proceeds to lambast you for being "cheap" and vows revenge. Then he shows up later in what can only be described as "prototype Ebony Warrior Drip" and challenges you to a duel. Probably one of the hardest fights in Morrowind other than main story bosses, thanks to all of that reflect damage.

@@arifhossain9751 I don't know what I'm doing "wrong" but Gaenor has never given me trouble. Plenty of other stuff in that game still trips me up to this day but he was never one of those things. Maybe it's a double-edged adaptation. Something in the way I play makes me worse over here & here but then it saves my life over there.

And tbh Corvus did spend a large part of his life in dedication to the Thieves Guild and did make life better for a lot of poor people. I personally think he did it out of Duty to whomever he received the cowl from and he wanted his old life back. You have to remember, Corvus left his Countship and his Wife to lead the Thieves Guild for twenty years old. Corvus also did his due diligence in making sure whoever received the cowl after him wouldn't have to live with Nocturnals curse while still keeping the notoriety of the Gray Fox alive.

By the end of the questline, he ultimately does more for his guild than any other guild leader we see, rewriting history so that the guild's leadership lived more prosperous lives, which leaves the entire guild so much better off overall. The only issue to take with his methods is that the player character is the one doing all the legwork, but it's a videogame. If he did it all himself, there wouldn't be a questline. Besides, it's reasonable to say that he's getting up there in age so he's not as capable as he used to be, plus he's testing the player to see if they'd be a proper inheritor of the cowl. Just because he benefits from the heist, that doesn't mean it's purely a selfish act. And even if it was all selfish, he's the leader of the Thieves Guild. Calling him selfish is like calling the Listener of the Dark Brotherhood a murderer. It's kind of their whole shtick.

I do recall in Morrowind, inside of one of the villagers locked homes, there was a book explaining that all the Tamriel races are interfertile. It even explains how the genes pass down. So a Bosmer and Imperial could be cousins.

Racial Phylogeny, right? There's a copy of it in Skyrim, too. Although it mentions that while humans and elves can procreate, humans aren't usually able to produce viable offspring with beast races like Khajiits and Argonians. I don't remember what it said about Orcs, but I think Orcs are technically elves so they'd probably be somewhat able to procreate.
