How to Knit a Braided Scarf

Welcome back to Claudia's Knitting Universe!
Today, I'll be showing you how to knit a braided scarf!
INFORMATION:
M a t e r i a l:
KnitPal 11US needles : www.amazon.ca/...
4 x Bernat Softy Chunky Super Bulky Yarn #6 100g
Double pointed needle
Tapestry needle
Scissor
P a t t e r n:
Cast on 36 stitches.
R1-4 : K1, P1 repeat until the end of the row.
R5 : **sl 6 st on dpn and hold in front.
K1, P1 repeat 3 times (left needle);
then repeat 3 times again (dpn)**
*Repeat* 2 more times to end of row.
R6-10 : K1, P1 repeat until the end of the row.
R11 : K1, P1 3 times (L needle);
**Sl 6 st on dpn and hold in back;
Repeat K1, P1 3 times (L needle);
and repeat 3 times again (dpn)**
*Repeat* 1 more time.
Finish with K1, P1 3 times (L needle).
R12 : K1, P1 repeat until the end of the row.
Repeat rows 1 to 12 until desired length.
Cast off 36 sts.
Make a fringe on both ends (optional).

Allo Claudia, I'm 1/4 of the way through the scarf. I haven't knitted in a long time, so thank you for posting because I'm suddenly excited about this project. MY QUESTION IS: What is a suitable pattern for a hat to match. Do you have any suggestions or even a pattern i can use. It would have to be straight forward. thank you so much.
