In this video, I test the inclines I plan to use in my N Scale coffee table layout!
Sorry it took so long to get a new video out! Don't worry, I'm still working on that coffee table layout! I'll also get to everyone's comments in the next few days!

I also happen to own an N-scale j3a Hudson myself and I did not do a slope test before building my first train layout. I built my train layout with a max grade of 2 and even on the 2, the train struggled with four pullman cars which could also be due to the fact that the 2 percent is on a curve. It is quite unfortunate because it is such a good-looking model.

Great video, have subscribed and look forward to catching up on your others. 2% grade is a lot for n scale steam and the hudson did well to cope. Add a curve to it and it will struggle even more.

I’m an N scale model railroader myself. In the future I will be setting up my permanent layout which will be expanded from the standard 4 ft. X 8 ft. To 4 ft. X 12 ft, from there it will have a second level. I will be using an incline from the lower level to the upper level. For each inch I add 1/8 zin. Which is a 1.25% grade so my locomotives will have an easier time to pull longer freights & Amtrak as well as my Southern Pacific Morning Daylight Excursion pulled by the GS-4 4-8-4 number 4449. An incline of 1.25% is easier than other grades, which eventually my layout will be 2 levels on a 6 ft. X 12 layout. My railroad is the Pacific West Coast. All of my locomotives are Kato & so is my Amtrak train the Coast Starlight & the Southern Pacific Morning Daylight Excursion train & 74 freight cars, 2 cabooses & 2 freight locomotives which the number will increase as well.

Hi I would like to add for everyone’s info. I don’t have scientific test videos on my channel. But whenever there are also curves with the grades it is a harder test for the loco to pass.

So, my layout is already built with as many inclines as it'll have and the last sections to build are all flat - but i was still curious to see how the 3% grade worked because i almost ended up with a 3% on an 'S' curve. glad i figured out how to make 2% work! That's a beautiful consist, so i hope you get the 2% into the table! Or maybe that's a good excuse to buy another loco...????

I'm dealing with the 3% grade for this layout but any future ones will definitely be 2% or less!
