And about Mizuki and Tomoe. I don't remember if they explain it in the anime but it has to do with what they are. As in a "White snake" (sacred creatures in japanese mythology and a wonderful familiar to a god) and a "wild fox" (evil/chaotic tricksters not something you'd expect from a god's right hand). So Mizuki thinks he is automatically better than Tomoe and tries to kick him out of the shrine.
