It's not the same sort of genre or vibe AT ALL, but there's a Cartoon Network show called Infinity Train that has a similar concept (this story seems to have a few similar concepts). It's much more sci-fi adventure, but there is an existential dread in some parts

Having one console and eating only walmart brand food... good times... good times. Edit: I was thinking about how he mentioned knowing his parents financial situation so he would manage his expectations for holidays, reminded me of one of my happiest memories as a kid in 3rd grade A girl I had a crush on and I had a big talk about how we didnt believe in santa anymore before winter break, but then on Christmas I got an xbox360 with a huge sample size of games (New vegas was in there too and I didnt appreciate it at the time but it is now my favorite game of all time) And I was so surprised, I started believing in santa again because I *knew* there was no way my parents got all that! I had to tell my crush when we got back in school and she even agreed with me. I now know as an adult my oldest sister had a boyfriend who wanted money for the holidays and sold it to my parents second hand and just threw in all his games because he had no use for them without the console. So much had to line up for that to happen and I appreciate my sister's boyfriend at the time and my parents for doing what it took to let me have my happiest Christmas I ever had as a kid. 😂 I still have the 360 to this day too. I think it is the only instance I can think of where innocence and childhood wonder was actually restored a bit, whereas its almost always just on the decline. Not that day!
