Excellent review, thanks for the feedback. My apologies for the damaged components. We can get you replacements if you’ll forward your address, and a few photos will help me better understand what you’re seeing (contact info below). To smooth out and reduce the effort of adjusting both miter bars, remove the black adjusting screws, put a dab of grease on their threads, and reinstall them. On the aluminum miter bar for the drop panel, a thin film of grease on the tapered edges of the wedge nuts under the aluminum miter bar in addition to a dab of grease on the threads should do the trick, and we can send replacement adjusters if it doesn’t. The difficulty in expanding the aluminum miter bar is in the adjusters, not the bar, and reducing friction will allow the miter bar to solidly lock the small drop panel to the table without much effort. We occasionally see stubborn adjusters through tolerances in the parts. The machining on the aluminum miter bar is correct. The grooves are left blind at the bottom, and this area intentionally fractures as the bar expands. Again, follow up with me if greasing the adjusters doesn’t solve the problem. Let me know if I can address any questions on the sled - 888.804.6272 xt 4. I’m also happy to address your other concerns… our goal is offering US-made equipment with excellent performance at the lowest possible price, and manufacturing anything requires a long series of compromises between cost and benefit (some of which will be unpopular) to arrive at that price. Please follow up with me on the damaged parts. Mark Mueller Tech, Sales & User Support Manager Taylor Design Group / Incra Tools 888.804.6272, xt 4 mark@incra.com

Most of what's left is cosmetic. Blotchy and scratched red anodized on the red flip stop frame, some corners of the base board dinged from how the stop was poorly taped to it for shipping. The fence extension is a different color anodized then the fence and it was .005 wider then the fence that I fixed with a shim in the follow up video plus a kink in one of the scales that looks like it was folded on an angle before inserting. That expanding aluminium rail is total junk in my book for a t slot. The bottom opens up so it can't be dropped in anymore and the top doesn't move enough no matter how tight the screws are until it's bumped out with a chisel. I don't use grease near any areas that contact wood on my equipment so I will probably just swap in a old kreg rail I have in the future. I couldn't believe the cuts in the fence extrusions weren't cleaned up before packaging at this price point. It works good and nothing is really broken to need replacement. Just hope you look at some of these issues for future buyers to have a better out of box experience. I registered it and added a note about this video to show my first impressions with this product. Thanks for watching.

Sorry about that. Parts like the fences are normally wiped down after deburring, and the offer stands to replace the parts that are cosmetically outside the normal range. Sending you a replacement for the drop panel’s aluminum miter bar would be an easy fix - it will drop straight in, expand & lock in place with easily, and lift right out when loosened. With the adjusters functioning correctly, the bars expand at the top as well as the bottom. I understand your skepticism about the aluminum miter bar based on your experience, but that design has worked great for us in the bigger picture. The aluminum Miter Sliders have been in production not quite 30 years, and I'd estimate we've sold around 200,000 of them. An off-the-record note to other viewers: Having used the 5000 sled for 20 years myself, I want to mention that the small offcut-side panel really should be rigidly locked to the saw's top while cutting.

If you think a replacement bar will actually work better, I will send you a email with my info to give it another chance. I will also include some photos of the parts in question for you to decide if they are outside what you consider normal. I did actually add a screw and t nut to secure that off cut panel because sawdust could work its way under the edges and raise it up while using as it slid back and forth. I will get that out in the morning.

It works good now that it's assembled, cleaned up and tweaked. I expected better quality out of the box from incra. I will do an update soon because I found the stop system is useless with a sacrificial board for clean cuts and scrap removal like I have always used. Thanks for watching.

Nice video. I purchased mine about 15 years ago. It is my go to miter sled. I have had to replace the nylon adjustment bushings on the miter slot a few times due to much use. On my sled the fence wasn't square to the table either. Mine had no adjustment so just slid a .010 shim in the space behind the fence which has worked well. I did replace the right side panel when I changed table saws. Over all it has performed very well. A good investment. No significant quality control issues showed up on my sled 15 years ago.

I concur with RB&R, my first question is will this work on a standard table saw top with the old school miter slot? My is the standard 3/4”x3/8” miter slot. Did you contact Incra about the lack of quality and poor finish here & there? I too was considering this, but I’m not sure. You’ve done a great service to your fellow woodworkers.
@unemployedredneckhillbilly20235 жыл бұрын
James it will work with a old school slot. That aluminum track would even work better without the t slot because it expands at the bottom. I attached a note with the product registration and there are now comments from incra about replacing parts in the video comments. I have to send them pictures to let them determine if they vary from their normal quality. It works good once assembled, cleaned up, and aligned so its just cosmetics. Wish the base was larger so a 23 inch panel like they advertise could be cut without being unsupported for the first few inches. I think it's going to be a great addition to the shop. If you buy one leave a comment about the condition yours arrives in. I really like the positive stops for setting angles and the adjustability. I was disappointed with the out of box quality and glad that I found a good sale. Thanks for watching.

But to be clear, that was just a battle, not the entire war. There's room for the U.S. to become a manufacturer again. Germany is a great model, as is (for the time being) Taiwan. My Oregon-purchased Taiwanese-machined Pantorouter is an impressively well built machine. Machine tolerances are a lot like fried food in that it matters how often they change the oil (or active tooling) lol. And all you have to do to raise the quality is pay for it (as a manufacturer). Once you know that, it becomes clear who isn't paying for quality.

My right hand table saw t-slot bar must have been milled a bit deeper as it did split open once I tightened down on the 2 expansion mechanisms. I then had the exact problem you mentioned ... but after hanging out a bit with it I realized that the bar could be mounted forward and back of its final position. There are 2 sets of screws about 5" apart, I mounted the right hand side upper 2 screws to the bars lower 2 threads, this allowed cutting the the first half of the RHS base with the bar properly engaged in the t-slot. I then remounted the bar so that that expansion mechanism was fully engaged while cutting the 2nd half of the base. Hope this make sense! When done my RHS base was cut without any wiggle. I certainly agree they could have-should have designed this better.

I was thinking about buying the 5000. Not sure now. I will give Mark and Neil kudo's they helped me a lot to install there whole table saw equipment. I bough the TS/LS system, plus the I-Box system plus the Router table extension on the table saw too. The I-Box I rate much higher. The TS/LS is a pain in the butt to put together. I had to hire a guy from Woodcraft to assemble it for me. I helped him, and the guy is very knowledgable about woodworking tools and gadgets, and we were on the phone quite a bit with them. We got it together finally. I thought about sending it back before assembly. Too many boxes though. Plus I didn't take it out of the box til several months after I had gotten it. I had several boxes with the lsts system or I would have. Now that I have been using it, and set it each time with a new saw blade. I didn't have the same problems you had. And believe me when I tell you, if you look at there ts/ls and router extension you would of thought someone was nuts going through all that setup. Pretty expensive system cause I bought the router table extension along with the tsls system. Mark and Neil helped us through it. They backup what they say. Had I to do over? Never! I agree with you about how shoddy the workmanship of your sled. NO excuse for that. I don't like one bit seeing the problems you have had with setup and shoddy workmanship! If that had happen to me with the huge system that I bought? I would have packed it up and drove it out to them, that would have ticked me off more lol. But I didn't. Just a lot of parts and tedious to put together. I wouldn't do it over if I had the choice, but remember, I bought a whole bigger system. A lot to put together. Plus, Neil and Mark didn't have to send me any parts either. Which I am surprised with your review of the 5000. I hope Mark and Neil have done whatever they need to do to correct the poor workmenship. I'm not sure I will buy the 5000 now after reading your review. One ore thing. Me being disabled and can't really bend over and getting up there in age, I say this because of my situation. However, most of you don't have the problems I have so you would probably do much better. If asked would I but the stuff again? I am going to contradict myself and say, yes I would, only hire two guys to put it together for me. LOL. Thank you.

I have a recent video about getting rid of the hard to use incra fence / stop and replacing it with a simple kreg fence and stop for quick accurate settings without wasting time or having to adjust tiny hard to grip hardware. It's accurate and repeatable so I feel it's worth what I paid for it but no more. I have shown it in other videos and the flip stop is a real pain in the ass if you move it often. The thumb screws are small and hard to adjust along with the toothed strips that don't just let you move it a couple thousands without using the tool to loosen and tighten screws. It's definitely better then my old kreg miter gauge. Thanks for watching.

Not what you expect for a out of box experience of a product in this price range. Seems like it's the norm these days and some expect it but it really should be handled with some quality control before packing. Not what I expected from a company like incra. I don't doctor videos up and what you see is exactly what my experience was good or bad. Is your saw a left or right tilt blade? Majority of new saws these days are left tilting for safety reasons but the instructions are written for a right tilt so you have to reverse everything they tell you. Makes a difference when you decide which miter slot, right or left, to set the sled up using before you cut the end pieces off. I called Incra first just to be sure I understood their instruction manual before I went any further. With the camera running when I open the box l always show exactly what I received and how it went together. I figure this is what anyone that bought one would encounter. Nothing is broken and it works after cleaning up, assembling, and tweaking so I will live with the cosmetic issues. I expected better quality control from a product at this price point and most likely won't buy anymore Incra products for my channel as I was going to. That guide seems to be for rectangular style slots and not t slots. The tapered wedge expands at the bottom but not the top so it will never work right and a replacement would be the same so why bother calling. Thinking about replacing it with the kreg bar to fix it right. Thanks for watching.

I’ve watched about 15 reviews on this miter sled, I I’ve now heard ONE that sticks out from the others. I now have to decide who to listen to. One that had many problems and maybe 50% satisfied (if I were that disappointed, I would send it back), or 14 the were 99% satisfied.

I just came to assemble mine and one of the holes in the steel mitre bar isn’t threaded so you can only screw in 2 of the three. The hole is bare so their QA process is terrible or non-existent. So frustrating.

It works good now that it's assembled cleaned up, and tweaked. This was my first incra tool and I expected better quality based on their previous reputation and price point of it. I left them a note on the warranty registration about my concerns. Thanks for watching.

I see comments from others with similar issues so you were smart to look at other brands. I haven't used it much but its still working good. Can confirm that the "adjustable" aluminum track rail is still garbage. I have a SawStop PCS and could not get the "mechanism" to expand to remove the side to side play/slop. The included allen wrench actually snapped in half while trying to do it (ouch). At this price point, they should have just replaced the aluminum rail with a second of the rails you use on the other side (which are not a picnic to adjust either--but at least they eventually work and allow you to remove the side to side play [and have more contact points than the aluminum rail]). In the end, I guess it doesn't matter too much, since the aluminum rail and the MDF cutoff that sits on top of it don't do anything other than support cutoffs but my advice to someone watching this as a tutorial is when you get to the part where you cut off the section of MDF attached to the aluminum rail, make sure you put plenty of downward pressure on that piece as you push it through the saw so it doesn't come back into the blade at an angle and bite out a piece of the end of the MDF. The anodizing on my stop lock was also messed up (and the sticker was chewed up) and the protractor base had punched through and into the cardboard box with the miter guide rail.

I think another issue I discovered with the 5000 that bothers me is that while they say it’s completely reversible for the right-side setup, the micro adjust screw on the stop lock is *only threaded on the left hand side* so you can’t swap the micro-adjust screw to the right side! So it makes it even harder to see where you are on the measuring tape. I watched your video about replacing it with the Kreg extrusion-but I don’t own the Kreg miter device-do you know if the flip down stops for Kreg can be purchased individually?

The quality is no better than the Chinese stuff you've had? You just said that this rig is a big upgrade from the Kreg...right? By the way, on that hold down, I found if you pushed the round rotating "bearing" from the other side it would have pushed right in. I assumed the one side was machined slightly smaller to retain it from sliding out. I really dislike having to re-manufacture parts on anything I buy. But this is something that happens so often that I'm getting used to it. I usually end up lapping faces against a known flat face with wet/dry glued to it in an attempt to true up parts. *** I put a 5000 together 15 years ago and had none of the problems you experienced during your assembly. I find Incra's lack of attention to quality control today to be disturbing . I don't recall how my stop came packaged but the fact that yours wasn't is disturbing (I'm going to use that word a lot). They couldn't even do something as simple as blister packing the fence stop and then taping that down or taping the stop to a small piece of cardboard and then blister packing that and taping that down. I worked in all facets of shipping and receiving for 25 years and if I know anything it's this; if it can move it will move. *** Once properly assembled the Incra jigs can split the wooden atom in half and that I really like. *** I have never enjoyed tightening the miter bar expanders as you know they the Allen bolts take a huge amount of pressure to expand the UHMW plastic ring. But I never do it with the ring within the miter slot. I pull out the ring and expand it and then try sliding it into the slot. *** I would suggest that you lap the edges of the Grizzly miter slot to remove any slight roughness or mill marks because if you don't you will be machining UHMW plastic off the rings rather quickly. (I'm sure you can come up with a method to do that if it needs doing.) *** To get the most out of any Incra you have to have previously trued the left side miter slot to the arbor assembly to make it perfectly parallel. This is a process that can be done many different ways. I use a dial indicator when I need to do it. *** When I need to check the accuracy coming off an Incra jig I rip an inch off a wide panel, flip that ripped edge over to the stop, rip a hair off the opposite edge, reset the stop to rip an inch off the panel and measure the ends of the ripped piece with digital calipers. I like digital devices for most machinery work as my eyes seem to be different from day to day but the numbers stay the same. *** It was interesting to see just how wonky the Kreg was in use. I never liked it either. G.
@unemployedredneckhillbilly20235 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the advice. Now that it's together I will do some fine tuning. The slot is actually ground very nicely and doesn't look like it will be a problem. I trued when I was having initial problems with the kreg gauge so that is taken care of. I am going to shum back the extension some and it's basically ready to go. It is my first Incra item and I expected a better out of box experience. It really works nice so I can't complain. This is a much better solution then the Kreg but for short cuts the Kreg is much easier to throw on the saw. Thanks for watching.

You bought yours on sale because it was a reject second.

Your blade being up while working on the right side is scaring me.

If you slipped with that allen key and the force you were using I see you punching that blade.

It works good so it's all just cosmetics. Incra left a comment they would replace parts if I want take the time to send them pictures of what I showed in the video but nothing is really broken so I'll live with it now that it's all assembled and aligned. . Thanks for watching.

I have seen a lot of Incra items and I have always been very impressed with them, I would be sending that back and also sending a snotty letter to Incra quality section (if they still have one) One comment said that these are now made in China, if so that would probably account for the loss of quality. I know everyone is trying to get costs down but Incra trade on the back of quality and if they lose that they will be in big trouble, it is one thing they cannot afford to lose. If enough people return items that are not up to the top quality then Incra will have to take note, the problem is that people are getting used to poor quality and no longer complain.

When I was a young man Incra was considered the top of the line in accuracy. Too bad they have gone the route of corporate greed. I would have boxed it up and demanded a refund.

It definitely is accurate but I was disappointed by the quality. They sent out a replacement aluminum Guide, the 2 damaged scales and red stop parts. I did a update on a recent video. They definitely don't take pride in what they ship out anymore. At least it worksworks good. Thanks for watching.
