Increase Engagement with Web Push Notifications (Chrome Dev Summit 2015)

Timely, personalized notifications save users the effort of manually checking for updates throughout the day and have enabled a host of new experiences from real time communication to live updates on breaking news. In this talk, we'll do a deep dive into sending push notifications to your web users on desktop and mobile, even after they've left your site.
You may recognize Owen from such features as Push Notifications on the web and Add To Home Screen. Prior to joining Chrome as a Product Manager on the Web Platform team, Owen worked on the analytics infrastructure at KZbin, and has been a long time hobbyist web developer. He earned his bachelors degree in Computer Science from University of Oxford.

I fear that this is too powerful without restrictions. Will you then get another notification ever 2 minutes from the site asking "how was the concert", "would you like more tickets", "how about buying a cool tshirt from that concert", etc

De-Duplicating. Announce a device wide ID, 'notification-appname-ticket-2222'. If it returns don't show a notification. Would probably require integration in Android.

Apple would never implement this, as they would start lose their iron first they hold over their platform. If web apps could compete with native apps, they would lose. So if you are on iOS, you are stuck. But you already knew that when you chose Apple. Right? It's Apple's way or the high way. Apple doesn't allow other browser engines on iOS than Webkit, which they control 100%. This means you'll likely never see ServiceWorkers etc on the platform.

+Harsimran Singh Maan Actually, there is no support yet for iOS for web push notifications. There's been a good amount of pressure on Apple as they introduced support for Safari years ago.
