How do you keep critter out of the compost pile? I live in the woods in Tennessee and I don't want to encourage rats and raccoon

I'm out in the woods too and I've yet to have any troubles with rats or raccoons in our compost pile. I would keep meat and fish out of it if you're really concerned about the smell attracting them, or at least bury your fish guts and heads real deep. Surrounding the pile with chicken wire or something similar should also help. When we lived in the city those kind of pests were a MUCH bigger problem. There's a better balance of different animals out in the boonies, and one species like rats racooons or possums isn't so likely to over-populate and become a big issue.

I compost my food scraps in a 50 gallon drum with layers of shredded paper. Lid on, holes for drainage. When the food has broken down sufficiently nothing is interested in eating it so I empty the barrel and put the contents into the main compost pile.

Lime seems kind of expensive. What vegetables do not need lime? Thank you for sharing helpful videos!
