One of the best interviews about the show -- I just wish it were longer. And I agree with the others that it was terrific to hear Sophie speak in depth about her characterization of Ann Walker. I would love to hear more from her about that. The questions were well thought-out and elicited interesting and intelligent responses.

I agree. I, too wish interviews had more questions like these. They were intelligent and specific and elicited in depth answers to sometimes complicated issues, especially re Ann Walker's mental health, but also for the actors just keeping up with not only the pace of the show, but the multiplicity of emotions in the scenes.

Yes, Ann Walker is my heroine, too, because she had so many more obstacles to overcome that Anne Lister either didn't have , or had already found a way to navigate through her life as a lesbian when such language didn't even exist. All extraordinary people on this Gentleman Jack journey from Anne Lister and her diaries to the people who preserved them, the women who wrote about these two women, and the cast and crew who continue to bring them to us!

BRAVO!! Here’s to moderator, Mara Webster, for doing such a brilliant interview with Sally, Suranne and Sophie. To ask such detailed and nuanced questions takes someone who, both loves the show, and understands the behind the scenes process. I agree with everyone else who wishes the interview had been longer, because it was so good. I already had great respect for the cast and crew of Gentleman Jack but this interview, as Ann Walker would say, made it “utterly clear to me now,” that this show is totally in the hands of the right people. What great questions! I loved the questions for Sophie and her responses. It's rare we really get to see a true and real depiction of mental health, especially including an LGBT theme. I also love seeing how passionate Sally and Suranne are about the show and Anne and Ann. I also love seeing how many people are commenting on Sophie and Ann. I feel Ann is often sidelined when she was also the one to have this marriage. I think it was braver for Ann to do what she did because it was in the face of mental health, internalised homophobia, alienation and huge pushback from her family whereas Anne had a supportive family, had been living a life as a lesbian for a long time by this point and was very sure of who she was.

Yea! We all love Suranne's role as Anne Lister; but to be fair, Sophie is also stellar as Ann Walker. The emotional roller coaster ride she had with her mental health was heart-breaking to watch; and NOONE could have done it better than Sophie. Can't wait for season 2 being available soon in the U.S.

If have another season, I really hope Sally be a director again like season one. No one is clear then Sally cos she is a writer, she should have some visual in mind. And direct the cam man etc how to tell the story beautifully. GJ not only a drama, it like a textbook. Let ppl learn how to tell the story using camera.

I agree. I love Sophie too, and think with such a story it's necessary for both women to be interviewed. Of course, there may have been reasons we're unaware of since Sophie was finishing up the final season of Peaky Blinders; but we don't know that.

Only two seasons? At least 10 season! The storyline is so rich! Also The GJ setup cost is so dear and why HBO not use it wisely to produce more season? HBO please think about it! Cut off the high quality drama cannot save much, customer only feel bad and cut then the annual plan immediately. I am not gay, but I also love GJ. The production quality is amazing. ❤
