Tbh. This is cool and all, but an RC heli that size with an 18' span, I don't believe should be flown within 400 feet of someone. Imagine the catastrophe if he lost control and piled 18' blades in to bystanders.

One of the most beautiful helicopters ever built! Utility at its best and POWERFUL! Only to be outwitted by the more beautiful Bell UH-1 IROQUOIS the “Green Ambulance” and “Flying Tank” of the Vietnam War. BUT I REGRESS! Every Rotor Wing Pilot who’s ever flown or lusted for a LAMA SA315B, would give their eye teeth to strap on one of these. You know, by golly, for a brief moment there, I was wishing for Barbara Eden (I Dream of Genie), to drop by and shrink me so I could fly this beautiful Swing Wing. But not to worry!! My wife so abruptly reminded me that Genie is not real NOR is the size of my wallet to make such a dream come to pass! Well now. Back to flying the US ARMY OH-6A, which I have flown over 4,000 hours, albeit not one hour in the jungles of Vietnam. May The Lord Rest the Souls of those who did and unfortunately didn’t make it back home to their loved ones. And for those LOACH Pilots to whom God did allow to return home alive, I commend you for a job well done! I can honestly say that that every time I strapped the LOACH onto my back, I felt a very special honor and a very blessed privilege to sit in the seat that was previously occupied by a Vietnam Pilot who flew the very Aircraft that I was flying at that moment! God Bless all Pilots EVERY WHERE who holds the coveted License that reads “Rotorcraft, Helicopter” !!

Beautiful aircraft, one of my favorite helicopters of all time. Nicely flown but it seems slightly difficult to hold still in a hover, I can see a bit of subtle twitchiness. Is this due to a rigid rotor head design?

Ronald Joseph Definitely. In a sense, flying a model helicopter is more difficult than flying a real helicopter since you are not always looking in the same direction as the model is flying. For example, when the model is flying towards you, left stick input will make the model turn right from your perspective. After several years of (admittedly very occasional) flying, I still do mostly tail-in hovers for exactly this reason.

Now you just need to learn how to fly in a scale like manner... tip no1, you are flying too fast, tip no 2, you are turning too steeply, tip no 3 you are approaching too fast and stopping too quick and tip no 4, try flying in a straight line for longer and slower before turning... Otherwise a nice model.

How is that legal? That thing is death incarnate for anyone unlucky to be within visual range. This guy is recklessly endangering the lives of others. This is terrible PR for the hobby. Whats he going to build next, a full size airplane?
@primus.interpares
@primus.interpares 4 жыл бұрын
Perhaps this is just legal, because at such events there are no idiots walking around sticking their nose into the dangerous areas. People visiting such events know how to behave for their own safety, I'd think.
@BaquePhotography
@BaquePhotography 4 жыл бұрын
Well, let’s see, it weighs a lot, has many points of failure and is literally above an audience.... yeah that’s a recipe for hurting bystanders. My point is don’t build a large dangerous aircraft as a hobby. Especially if you think your “qualified.” Because if you were you qualified you’d build a more RC model sized one that won’t destroy a car if it hits it.
@primus.interpares
@primus.interpares 4 жыл бұрын
@@BaquePhotography I understand your point of view, but what model size is reasonable then? Even a far smaller RC-aircraft can do a lot of harm, if badly controlled or failing.
@BaquePhotography
@BaquePhotography 4 жыл бұрын
Well the US government makes you register any drone over 250 grams, so 250 grams is a good starting point. Even though we’re adults these things are still toys. That guys chopper is dangerously big, he needs to revaluate what he’s doing. And I don’t care if he has a PhD in helicopter design, that thing is to big to fly remotely.
