It sits beside the lake with over 200 years of history.
Lived in until 2015, its weathered walls and crumbling turrets show its now state of decay. Abandoned and isolated, it sits silently.
Touched by only natural decay, its ornate ceilings and peeling walls hold on to its original grandeur.

My sister and brother used to stay here in the 1960s when it was a YHA Hostel. The last time I walked past it was about 2005, I was visiting a friend who lived in a boathouse on the lake, the elderly gentleman who lived here ( I think on his own at that time ) was struggling to move a large log and we gave him a hand. He said he had been living there for 40 years and didn't remember it as a youth hostel when my sister told him she had stayed there as a teenager.

That double headed eagle with the Crown on their necks is a symbol of the scottish (free)masons.As a symbol, the double headed eagle stands for the union of body and spirit. In other words, the ealge represents mankind's dual nature as both a physical and a spiritual being, who must choose good over evil. The double headed eagle of Lagash is associated with Scottish Rite Masons.

Great video! Trying to cover such a huge building is hard work and takes planning, all of which you accomplished quite well. Your reactions to the features are priceless. Hi Sam and Jess,great drone footage and lovely location,looking at those yummy strawberries made me feel hungry. Amazing Castle and grounds so please you was able to get in. Some of the architectur and windows in the building were incredible what a shame to see it decaying, l wonder if this was a care home at one time, hope something can be done to bring this beautiful castle back into use one day,really enjoyed watching your video and again thanks for sharing it,amazing find.

What an amazing place, i wonder if you would have found some of these fantastic places if covid hadn’t locked you down in this country, a blessing in disguise maybe? The drone footage was beautiful and what a place. Such a shame the funds and manpower weren’t around to keep this place alive. I agree that it would be a good thing if someone bought the property and renovated it. BUT quite possibly the restrictions and conditions imposed by the architectural conservancy board made the effort too cumbersome and impractical. Bureaucracy is very often more interested in exercising its authority than doing what is reasonable.

That was so awesome! I especially loved the fact there was no graffiti and vandalism done there. It's so disappointing when you go to explore somewhere and someone really destroys the place. The "proper military bullet" you found was a blank, lol. Also: You should stay the hell out of old shot-up tanks. I don't know if the UK military uses them, but the US military frequently shoots up wrecks with DU rounds. (Depleted uranium) It's been theorized that mucking about in shot up wrecks is what caused Gulf War Syndrome in alot of Allied troops.

I can’t believe the shots from inside I’ve walked up past here at Rudyard lake ! Hundreds of times from a child in winter covered in snow it’s magical . The old fella was a true toft but a real-gentleman . He used to keep a donkey tied outside which I always took a carrot or apple for lol. Never has anybody said it was used as a Hostile ? Spoke and chatted to him lots even fixed the tyres on his Cherokee jeep for him !
