Man, I've been so interested in Goo Studio's and their members' works ever since I started learning about what NPR is from that Guilty Gear Xrd GDC I watched 2 years ago. I've been long enamoured by what their team is capable of creating. Some of the things they do also really helped me learn more about making NPR, like Ruki's musings and her Callisto model; and Late occasionally dropping tech art tidbits and having that one stream where they fully explained some of their VFX art in Goo Engine; and Dillon hosting lots of animation critiques. It's great you got to talk to him for real!

I'm not even an animator and got inspired by him. I read his "Passing" notes where he talks about his mother and not feeling much after she passed away. For some, he might be a workoholic, but at the same time, he also inspires people to move their butts and put some effort into their work.

It's too bad anime was a mistake and the animation industry relies almost entirely on automation making a career in doing it all but absolutely worthless with generative AI models trimming loose the very last vestige of human creativity from the now 100% Industrial Process. It doesn't matter that a single person or handful of people "might maybe someday" get permission to do it for a living. 99.99% of anyone bothering to try and build a career in animation now will fail.

@@PierrickPicaut_P2DESIGN have you ever tried to do any research that wasn't to support a previously held conviction? Because much of the information required to very clearly determine revenue growth in the industry is accelerating much more rapidly than employment in the industry is readily available. And many of those employed in the animation industry aren't animators. They are programmers. And software developers. Also highly available information. And the amount of students perusing degrees in animation apposed to those who build a career, also very available information. The state of the art, is necrotic. Most animators, out of the millions who try, and ten's of thousands who succeed, end up with no options but temporary gig work. ALL of this should be me preaching to the choir here. But to answer your question, yes. And I've helped others get into several different related industries. The point is that fewer and fewer actual animators are needed every year. And very soon, will not be needed other than as a legal requirement to achieve copyright protections. But tell me more about your expert opinion. I'm dying to hear your take.

Our industry and any industry is sure evolving and probably alot of people will lose or see their work changing. My point is not that you may learn art to land a job, you may learn art because you enjoy it at first. Joy not job. Also, I had gigs from people that couldn't raise enough money to have a full team and were able to start small projects thanks to AI. These jobs may not have seen the light of day without it. Also, we do have to adapt because whatever law or decison are taken to protect humans, AI is sure taking a big part in our industry and will take a bigger soon enough. More people will give up, but some won't. Also I do believe a lot of people care about the craft itself, not just the end result and we saw the rise of a lot of traditionnaly made movies, VFX, animation these last 5 years. That gives me hope.

@@PierrickPicaut_P2DESIGN Hope can't build a career unfortunately. Investments are made when risk is mitigated. All hope does without a road map is encourage people like the previous commenter to attack reality. So save the hope, build a road. Because if more people can't follow the path than it took to cut it, that path was the wrong path.
