I met Richard in a bar in Mobile (maybe 85'ish?) after their show that night. He had a couple of drinks and went to his hotel across the street alone. He was an absolute gentleman, very polite, and no entourage at all. Nice guy.

Both groups had a lot of fun doing this collaboration, Richard & Tim “competing” with each other to go low! Home Free did collaborations withDon McLean and Alabama. They have respect for their elders! The Oak Ridge Boys have been around seemingly forever; a couple of great ones are “Fancy Free”, and “Y’all Come Back Saloon”.❤❤❤

Legends and legends in the making. When Home Free collaborate, they leave room for their collaboration partners to shine. They never try to hog the spotlight and the music is awesome because of it. This was a fantastic re-imagining of Elvira. I think Home Free perform this song at every show and it is extraordinary. I only got to see them once live, but it was fantastic. Tim's bass at the end literally rattles your seat. Great reaction!

Since you love The Oaks, you absolutely owe it to yourselves to explore their contemporaries The Statler Brothers. Both started out as successful Southern Gospel quartets with distinctive 4 part harmonies and a great bass singer. Both crossed over into mainstream country around the same time and with great success. In fact, The Statler Brothers (2 of the 4 were brothers but not named Statler oddly enough) were so huge that they won CMA Vocal Group Of The Year 9 times over a 13 year period, unprecedented at the time. You can’t really react to country without going down this hole. Check out You Are My Sunshine, Bed Of Roses, and the most touching post Viet Nam War song ever, The Wall, about a mother who lost her son visiting the memorial in Washington DC (Amber, you may cry).

I also love the Statler Brothers on songs such as "Do You Remember These?" and "Class of '57." I think Jay and Amber would enjoy those, too, although they wouldn't get a lot of the pop culture references in the first song.

This is a great collaboration between Home Free & The Oak Ridge Boys. "Elvira" was a huge hit for The Oakridge Boys in 1981. You can see the great respect these 2 groups have for each other. The Oakridge Boys are mentors to Home Free & it is like they are passing the baton to a younger version of themselves. They have performed together on the Grand Ole Opry. Adam Rupp's vocal percussion is the best in the business. He can simulate drums & any other sounds perfectly. Home Free is my favorite a cappella group. They are so talented yet very humble guys.

They do another song with the Oak Ridge boys from Christmas time called Star of Bethlehem. Great reaction. Home Free has lots of new songs. One you might really like that Chance wrote is called Skull and Bones. Ubisoft (game maker) approached HF to write a song for their pirate game. It’s a great pirate song! They also just toured in Australia and did a song with some Aussies called Horses. It’s wonderful. Enjoy! 😄

Glad you revisited Home Free after awhile. I think you would like their mix with Billy Gilman "One Voice". Billy Gilman recorded the song when he was very young. Billy Gilman is an exceptional voice in his own right.

I saw your video of Home free singing When a man loves a woman, but my heart still sticks with the original, Percy Sledge. Since you're exploring, Home Free, I have two requests for you for the song, "One Voice Was Heard." the first version was by a boy named Billy Gilman, who sang this song when he was 11, and is still the youngest artist on the top 40 country charts. His 2000 version was mostly dealt with looking at violence through the eyes of a child. Billy recorded the song again with Home Free as an adult in 2021, same song but dealt with suicide prevention. Both the 2000 and 2021 versions have great heartfelt videos.

Every Home Free member will tell you the same thing. When you put people such as them into a room where they have the opportunity to interact and sing with their idols it is going to force them to kick it up a notch or two just "because." That's how a star player such as a Michael Jordan can elevate any team he plays for... no one wants to be less than their very utmost best in front of him. That's the respect these people have for those who are the true superstars amoung them. Especially a group such as the Oaks, who have been there for many decades.
