Mount Rinjani and the Caldera of Samalas are accually 1 specific volcano. That volcano is a volcanic complex, which means that wherever the eruption takes place in that one volcano. Samalas is the first active and former highest cone in the complex and was constantly eruption for over years, but suddenly stoped erupting after centuries. Then another cone was built, magma move towards the east with high viscosity thus creating more explosive eruptions. That you have hiked at the top and currently the highest point of the complex is Mount Rinjani. After Rinjani stoped erupting, the volcano built up tremendous amount of magma and pressure inside. The pressure was so great, it even was ejected on the old cone and cause a catastrophic eruption of 1257. In 1847, the lava dome was created then created the now actively erupting baru jari cone.

What a great footage, guys! Love the way you made this video! Just a few questions as I am about to hike next week with my DJI too: 1. Would 3 batteries enough to cover the trip? Any tips on how to survive the batteries from the cold? 2. Any advice on the GPS signal or other issues when reaching the peak and turning on the RC? 3. Thanks for watching. I am glad that you liked it. I would say 3 batteries are enough. We had no issues with the GPS. However, we had problems with the sensors. Also, do avoid the ash cloud, it can damage the motors. I guess, I would have liked to take video of the grassy area which, is closer to the starting point.

Thank you so much for the advice, guys! - particularly for the volcano ashes. I assume if I take the "Padang" (with grassy) I will absorb 50% of my first battery :) Interesting to know that you had problems with the sensors. I heard many times from my friends who used to go hiking. This might due to the high earth magnet. I am a beginner so I might not really understand how this can block the sensor as well. Appreciate again for your well thought and informative input, guys! :)

hafizsomchai There are generally 2 packages. One that goes to the summit and then return or the other one that carries on to the crater lakeshore then return. There are several options that can last several days based on your preference. For us, we went to the summit and returned. We camped for two nights. That gave us the best flexibility to film our travel series in Indonesia. Do see our other videos!!! We are reasonably fit and didn't have to train more than our usual regular exercise. However, you must evaluate your own physical condition and limitations - make your own necessary prepations. For us, it was not super arduous but it was a fulfilling and tiring trek. Many local and foreign tourists make the trip. Do note the hiking season due because access can be stopped due to weather conditions. Above all, good luck and go for it!!

hafizsomchai oh yes... advice. Bring a raincoat/ windbreaker. It can be cold at night. Wear good hiking footwear ( for me it's high cut boots), and a hiking stick would be very helpful.

It did not come with our package. You might want to speak with your tour operator about it. Personally, what I did was layer and wear a good good wind breaker. We went in May and it was cold at night and before day break.
