Huh, I was ahead of you this time on this. I built my own patio pond this past summer in the same pot no less lol. I did large gravel in the bottom to distribute weight, a layer of miracle gro organic potting soil in the middle, planted water irises and dwarf cattails, and topped it with a layer of decorative pea gravel. I have no electrical going to the outside so I aerate the water with a mini solar powered floating fountain. I also stocked it with about a dozen rosy red minnows and a handful of nerite snails. The water stays clear enough you can see the bottom and the live plants keep the water filtered so I dont have to rig a solar pump to it. It's simple but it works.

I'm drooling. My homeowners association doesn't allow for much outdoor imagination. And the contract "landscapers" make anything I try to do outside a lost cause. (If it's not grass, it goes.) A feature like this would be SO welcome in my living space. I've got to devise a place and way to add it. Thanks so much for the inspiration.

I just saw this video. Great job! I did one a few years ago in a real half barrel. The plants were completely different but it looked pretty cool. I had 3 young Koi and a couple of Comets in there. I used a pond pump with a built in filter. I would send a picture but it doesn’t look like I can. I’m going to build a Paludarium soon and watch all your videos about them to get ideas. Thanks.
