One day, during a high school assembly, literally everyone started clapping... at the same exact time. Everyone then tried to stop the synchronization by speeding up, but we all sped up at the same time. Then we all tried slowing down, but that didn't work either. Then we all decided to give up and we all ended up stopping at the same time with people starting to get mad at what was going on.

By the way, synchronization is actually a natural phenomenon. I don’t remember the specifics, but a sufficient number of random, independent people will accidentally walk, clap, and do other things synchronously for some odd reason.
@jamesmacleod93823 жыл бұрын
Yeah there is a pedestrian bridge in London that they thought would fall because the people crossing on the opening day spontaneously walked in sync. Really weird to look at there's a video on YT somewhere.They explain it along with other things in this like the metronomes.
@bloodink95083 жыл бұрын
It’s due to their effect on each other. It’s not random. They are linked by the substrate. The bridge for instance with the metronomes it’s the surface on the rollers. They actually nudge each other into synchronization. Does not work if their movements are isolated from each other.

At work, a whole department of people gathered for a meeting on an open part of the floor. Most people tended to keep a distance from the speaker, but there were always a few of us who would stand a bit closer. Depending who was speaking, a “come on, everybody, get a little closer” type phrase was to be heard. One day, there were just four of us in the open space left by the crowd before the speaker. When they said to get a bit closer, the four of us spontaneously shuffled a synchronized four steps forward without realizing what we’d done. The rest of the crowd burst out laughing.

I'm an alpine skier and I did synchronised stunts like those at 4:20 (what is easy) and I did dangerous ones when we go downhill in a parallel line, shoulder to shoulder: if one of us misses the rhythm, we all fall breaking the bones - what never happened. I could do it with a skier I meet for the first time, if he skies good enough: we agree which one of us is giving the rhythm (usually the weakest skier) and all the rest are following - the trick you just can't see, because we really do the same, but we all watch the same one and predict his moves, then we do the same as he does. And YES - it does improve skiing skill A LOT. You MUST focus, you must be focused 100%. I'm sure that people from this video use the very same trick: one (or few) are leading, the rest do the same. But what are birds doing, I don't have a clue.

The thing about birds or also fish swarms flying/swimming in perfect harmony is actually well researched and understood. Turns out it's actually not all that complicated and follows a very simple rule: If the bird/fish next to you turns you turn as well. And with enough reaction speed those formations naturally form. They are not an intended creation but merely the result of thousands of individuals moving around and turning at high speed.

I took part in what at that time was the world's largest video game. It was in the "Electric Theater" at a SIGGRAPH convention in '91. There were wood paint stirring sticks with a red reflector square on one side's end and green on the other side. No explanation. Slowly we figured out that when you held your stick up an X which matched your seating location changed to whichever color you were showing on your held up stick. As the theater filled, waves of colors flowed across the screen as everyone figured out how their stick worked, being mapped by some camera system monitoring the crowd. Then it became a game of PONG. Left side of crowd vs right side. You learned red ment down, green ment up and pulling the stick down removed you from adding to the crowd's total. The entire group became so good so quickly they had to manually end the game because the crowd just automatically worked as a group on each side almost perfectly. Then they switched to a flight simulator. Simple pitch on one side, yaw on the other. Again automatic and perfect crowd coordinated take off and flight. Until someone yelled "Crash it!" :-)

Best way to get better at something, like getting 3 point shots almost every time, is to see yourself doing it in your mind, just constantly take shots. I would like someone who never played basketball take on this challenge and tape it for youtube

Yes! The music helps tho. Most grouped dance forms are synchronized and they go according to the beat if the music.

The metronomes don't sync for the same reason as the pendulum. They are on a mobile platform. The movement of the platform causes them to adjust their speed to match the others. Veritasium did a video about it.

I've so many times when either went to adoption at petsmart and played with kittens or fosters of mine. I would swing a toy back and forth and watch them all move their heads up and down or side to side at the exact same time! Always much fun lol

At 2:30 - they were ripping off the Japanese group "World Order", they invented that particular movement. It's a huge part of their gimmick. I highly recommend any of their videos. You will be blown away.

When I was in Navy boot camp, we did a march we called "Mass Confusion" which, to the audience, looked exactly that way. But it was awesome to pull off.

back in the days, for the school talents show. Me and my friends together practiced for years synchronizing freestyle dances. I'll give you an advice for synchronizing. Work on your speed and timing. Everything else would be preety much easy.
