You have turned a pretty standard old poly weekender into a precious small yacht. Fantastic job! The Privateer always was a rather interesting and nice designed boat, only let down by the rather crude and seventies idea of finish. Gone are the 'van style' carpets, in came a great wooden finish.

Running water? Lol, OK the fridge is nice, a small vented heater, doesn't take much and being nice and toasty is really great. A cockpit table, with a awning would be great to take advantage of those nice evenings. Owning a small boat = much fun, and easy on the pocket book. 20 is a bit tight, but you did a really nice job, she looks very swanky.

Looks real nice but I must say that you've added a fair bit of weight to her, how does she sit now on her lines?
@sailingjosefine
@sailingjosefine Жыл бұрын
It might look like a lot of weight, but it isn't. I used 3mm and 4mm ply under the top and sides, the support under the new cockpit floor is light palowina wood (like balsa), so I guess all in all not more the 20kg. Therfore I use a 2.3 Honda air cooled outboard, the lightest you can get, also a 80 amp very light LiFe batterie. The boat was designed for 2 adults and 2 children at the age of 13 (as stated in the manual). The designer even recommended to use sand balast in the bilge under the cockpit to get her level, when you sail alone. So on longer a trips, I carry addional four 15l watercans as ballast. She weighs around 850kg loaded, (with fuel, water, equiment, food, ect.). So no problem here. I do also have my concerns once in a while regarding weight, when I see people on youtube fitting out their boats with heavy stuff and for instance putting on a washing mashine in their boats.😆

You have done an excellent job. I am also busy restoring a 20' Vivacity, and yes, it's a lot of work that people don't realize, but the reward is absolutely marvelous. I have finished the sanding of the hull and deck now, and I was wondering what specific paint you used on the upper hull and deck? Hope she gives you many hours of excellent sailing 👌🤙
@sailingjosefine

I used Hempel Brilliant Gloss 1K for the deck, the lighthouse red (brown) color is from Epifanes, the new International Toplac Plus is also very good.👍

@@mikejansen1515 Oh no, please use only marine paints, (UV-protections, adhesion, ect.) Unless you sanded it down to the original gelcoat and have a garage/shed to paint in, I would only use 1K paint. Not forget the ease of use with 1K.😁

I'm guessing you're not a boatbuilder, like all the folks saying how wonderful a fitout this is. Why paint all the interior then line it with ply AND not insulate? Where did you study yacht design? (yes I noticed the misuse of spiling weights) I suggest you ask for your money back with regards length of bowsprits, sail area and its effect on balance and speed. WHAT?? You've got to be kidding! You're actually going to sea in that? When I saw what you were doing I immediately thought oh well, he's only going to be day sailing in sheltered waters and drinking a lot, a true weekend sailer so all the weaknesses he's built in won't matter. Hope you don't get caught out in a severe blow....
@michaelbrownlee9497
@michaelbrownlee9497 Жыл бұрын
An you're being a bit harsh, look at the non such, or sailing wings. More sail area with the longer bow sprit is common and preferred as it keeps the center of gravity low, increases sail area. Adding all that weight though, is the speed killer in light winds. Nice little gin palace, where 2 foot itis will kick in. Pretty comfy little spot for shelter from the rain.
@sailingjosefine
@sailingjosefine Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your concern! Let me insure you, I' am well aware, this boat is not a Flicka 20 and it is not intended for crossing oceans! It is a truly weekender for sheltered waters or river estuary's (as stated in the manual). Well, the previous owner crossed the English Channel with it, what I probably would not want to do. And yes, I am a designer and a boat builder (where is the problem?); You can see my latest design here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZ7MmJtjnLJpg6M Eh, I am also a pilot, watch here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rKm3pqOLirOmfJo But mainly, I am a sailor having fun: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rZDLgouAqdKeZpY😁 This video is only showing how I did it for my personal needs and preferences. It is not intended to be a tutorial in boat restoration, or a how to, nor a lecture in yacht design and I am not perfect either. For this, I recommend watching Andy's videos from boatworks today. I spend many hours watching them and learning a lot! But what worked for my boat to get her faster, was to increase the sail area. And as a budget boat, the easiest way was to put on a longer bowsprit (sails down- 0 kn, reefed- low speed, all sails up- normal speed, gennaker up- top speed). So tell us your solution, how to get more speed out of that boat, in an area, with prevailing winds around 6 - 10 kn? Also, if you compare the design, for instance with the pocket ship, you will notice, that the pocket ship has it's centreboard aft the mast, the Privateer 20 has it in front of the mast, which looks bit odd for me. Anyway after the changes I made, she now sails very well balanced! So what's wrong with that? 🤔
