What a beautiful video!! I'm about to restore my grandmother's Necchi supernova machine so I can start learning to sew❤ it has a huge sentimental value for me and I'm happy that everything I find on the Internet keeps telling me it's an excellent and reliable machine! I think that our model is around 60 years old! 😱

I have this exact sewing machine. My mom bought it from our neighbor when I was a kid. I love this machine but it has been sitting for 15 years so it is a bit frozen up. I have never used it to the fullest so it is great to see this video.

I have my mothers Necchi Nora that she bought brand new in august of 1960.She apparently never understood how to use it properly because she always complained about not being able to get the tension correct. fortunately she did not get rid of it and we have the cabinetry and all the accessories. I would like to have it restored for my Daughter. Any help finding restorers in the Ft Collins CO or Denver CO area would be greatly appreciated.

Enjoy your videos. Haven't seen all and no recent ones. Was hoping since you restore Necchi machines you could help me with a problem I'm having with my vintage Esperia. No matter how hard I try locking the sewing when winding bobbin it won't. Can you tell me what problem is and how to fix it? Better yet, have you made a video of one you restored that had this problem. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I was just given a Necchi BU Mira. It of course needs to be cleaned & a new belt, but seems to run ok. I am having a problem, getting it to work. I will run just fine as long as I remove all bobbin parts. It hums right along. When I put the bobbin parts all back in, it stops. I think it may be timing, but I don't really know. Could you give me an idea what I need to do to fix this. I really like the machine. It isn't the prettiest machine, but am super glad to have it. Thanks in advance for your help. Also thanks for the videos. I have been able to find out a lot more about the vintage machines I have thanks to you.

Hello, what's is your opinion in viking sewing machine type 8E?? Belts and bobin? Hard to find?
@VintageSewingMachineGarage
@VintageSewingMachineGarage 2 жыл бұрын
Those are beautiful machines and the 8E, if I recall, may be one of the few straight stitch models ever made with a Free Arm set up. For this and its ZigZag versions, bobbins are not hard to find. Bobbin cases are somewhat more costly. Belts and power cords are tougher though available. Note that, like many European brands such as Bernina and Pfaff, the motors are proprietary and not as easily replaced as those of Singer, White, and Japanese brands. But I have to admit that the Vikings of this period are fun to sew on and were very impressive in their industrial design.

I have a Necchi Bu nova that needs a motor. Do you or could you sell a motor? This machine is in beautiful shape. But cannot use it. I have to take it to a repair shop to get tuned up and have the motor replaced. Thx for your help.
@VintageSewingMachineGarage
@VintageSewingMachineGarage 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Carolyn. I don't currently sell motors but you can get replacements. The key is to find one that is compatible with the motor bracket which can be detached from the old motor. I would pay attention to the layout of the bracket and search for a motor that is compatible. A search online would allow you to check and ask the seller how the motor attachment bolts are arranged.

My Adler 589A has finally lost its timing belt and so far none can be found. I am watching that Necchi go over the jeans and hem in the jeans and it is awesome, much better than my Adler (which is hard to believe!). I've already decided on a Necchi to replace it, so these videos are just superb. I'm trying to watch this closely to see where you reverse. Adler had a very convenient reverse. Also, is there a timing belt on the BU series of Necchi and if so how hard is it to find? I'm lost without my Adler sewing machine and don't want to go through this again. Thank you!
@VintageSewingMachineGarage
@VintageSewingMachineGarage 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Bobbie. Some of the Noras had a metal lever for stitch length adjustment and for those, you would flip the lever up for Reverse. At some point, they changed the length control to a white knob and just above that (see my machine in the video) is a white button that is pushed in for Reverse. You hold it until you are done Reversing/Back Tacking. FYI, for ANY machine with a spring loaded Reverse button like this one, you want to release it gently and not allow it to just snap back. Just good insurance against cracking and breaking it. As to your 2nd question re: timing belts, this machine does not use one as most domestic machines did not. Pfaffs, Adlers, and some Viking/Husqvarnas used timing belts and their may be other brands/models that did but not most Necchi home machines.

Hello. It is possible to get parts for the Necchis, but Necchi changed its specs on parts often so you want to be sure the part is for your specific Necchi Model. I would suggest you look on Ebay since some people "Part Out" their machines and sell the parts so that others with machines like yours can get them running. Good luck!

If you search online under "Necchi Nora" or "Necchi BU Nora" manual, you will find online sellers where you can get the PDF of the manual to download. This is better than buying an original manual since you can always print out a new copy from you PDF. Manuals are important since they give you lots of tips on how to set up your machine.

Are cams easy to find for this model ?
@VintageSewingMachineGarage
@VintageSewingMachineGarage 4 жыл бұрын
Hello Jim. Not super easy to find, but not impossible. Try checking online auction sites Ebay, Etsy, or seller site bonanza.com The only cams that are in very great supply are Singer "Top Hat" style cams. This is because Singer was the largest seller of machines in the vintage era and also because they kept the same cam design for many decades at a time.

Hi there. Well, a lot depends on where you live (urban vs rural) as well as your local market's awareness of how special that machine is. You can always post it for sale at places like Facebook, Kijiji, or Craigslist and list it as Best Offer. Sometimes, you may find that waiting for the right buyer to find your post can bring the best price.

@VintageSewingMachineGarage 5 жыл бұрын
Hell Chris. I was fortunate in that this Nora's wiring was in great shape. I don't have a PDF of the manual but fortunately, its available online. You might find other locations online where its available for free. I did find this site where you can purchase it. They are often less than $10. There may be other places to find them. It would, in my opinion, be well worth it to have the manual. You can try contacting Sewing-Vacuum service businesses in your area to see if they could help you with the wiring.

Good morning Sir. Pleased to find your information. I have a Necchi (Lelia) 513, cabinet style. Wonderfully maintenanced and operational. Accessory box with printed parts documentation and instructions. Mine has a knee bar (knee pedal) and I cannot find a value of this model with that feature. Any direction that you could give me will be so appreciated.
@VintageSewingMachineGarage
@VintageSewingMachineGarage 5 жыл бұрын
Hello. You have one of the last all metal Necchis that were made in Italy. That model has both straight and ZigZag stitch capability. As for value, you can try to use Ebay as a gauge for pricing but your local area will be a big factor in what price you might expect to get for the machine. Machines for sale in large urban areas command higher prices than those for sale in rural areas. For this model, knee vs foot control is unlikely to influence pricing. You may notice slightly higher prices being charged for the Pink color versions of this machine.

Is the machine really as quiet as in the video?
@VintageSewingMachineGarage
@VintageSewingMachineGarage 8 жыл бұрын
Hello Vicky and yes, it is even more quiet than it sounds because of the microphone used for videos tends to magnify sound. Necchis are some of the quietest machines ever made. I would also include the Singer 201 as in that class of quiet!!

Do you have a preference as to what you would prefer to sew on? A Necchi or a Vintage Singer?
@VintageSewingMachineGarage
@VintageSewingMachineGarage 8 жыл бұрын
Hi Vicky. Funny, but you are the first person to ever ask me this question!!! Its so touch to answer because the best machine really depends on the kind of projects people have. I mend clothing and occasional make a dish towel or simple napkin so I technically can use any sewing machine for my needs. But many of my clients need machines for specific qualities. For example, quilters need machines for different reasons than upholsters do and so I recommend different machines to each type of sewer. My personal machine is an ever so humble and quite simple Singer 66. But many sewers need other features like ZigZag etc. So I guess the answer to your question is "It depends". :-)

Hello Gloria and congrats on your "new" vintage machine. Your model was produced in Japan by one of the Japanese manufacturers for Necchi. These are sometimes also called Necchi-Alco brand machines. They are strong machines in their own right and they share a lot more in common with 1960's/1970's Japanese ZigZag machines than they do Necchis made in Italy. I would suggest researching vintage sewing machine Groups at Yahoo where there are many network discussion boards on machines like your model.

Hi Terri I Took mine in and they said I needed a hand wheel, because it was getting stuck. How did you get yours working again?
@mamasaidsew4843
@mamasaidsew4843 4 жыл бұрын
@@EJStarTarot I'm so sorry I didn't see your comment before. Surely you've fixed your problem by now, but all I did was take the top off and use a product called triflow everywhere metal touched metal. I took the handwheel off and cleaned and applied triflow there too. I took the nose plate off and applied triflow all over those moving parts. Finally, I flipped it onto its side and used triflow underneath where all the ports were and everywhere metal rubbed against metal. I put it out on my back deck in the sun for heat and it started moving after that. HTH
@VintageSewingMachineGarage
@VintageSewingMachineGarage 4 жыл бұрын
Just to add my 2 cents, it's not unusual to have stuck Necchi parts including the hand wheel. Necchi engineered the very close tolerances of their machine parts and its great in that the machines have almost NO vibration. But when trying to 'wake up' one of these years after they have sat, it can be challenging. I have used a variety of penetrant type oils along with (Carefull) use of heat to soften the old oils/grease to set the hand wheels free. Even more carefully, I've used a rubber mallet and gently tapped on the hand wheel from the left side to 'encourage' it to release. FYI, most of these BU machines have either a plastic or polished aluminum hand wheel so extra care must be taken to not damage them when attempting this. Once they release, cleaning the wheel and driveshaft surfaces with alcohol and then relubricating often takes care of things. NOTE: Most Necchi hand wheels from this period have a hollowed out groove inside the handwheel with a wick (might be missing) that requires oiling.
