Four of five children arrested on suspicion of murdering an 80-year-old man, named by police as Bhim Kohli, have been released without further action.
A murder investigation was launched after the elderly man died in hospital from injuries he sustained during a “serious” assault in Franklin Park in Braunstone Town, Leicestershire, on Sunday evening.

No, I don’t agree with that. Of course parents need to step up and take some responsibility, but it’s a multi faceted problem. You could blame the police for not being more pro active within communities. Blame the government for removing so much of the police’s power (and much more!!) blame social services for not getting adequately involved with ‘problem’ kids *and* their families; Blame teachers, blame society as a whole! The list goes on. The sad truth is that troubled kids will find mischief and run with it. It’s sad for everyone involved, not least this poor man and his family.

So in New Zealand, approx 20 years ago, a 12 yr old was arrested on a murder charge. He didn't touch the victim, he was a lookout while some adults went to rob a guy for a bit of cash. From memory, one adult violently attacked the male victim, who tragically passed away. All of the attention was on the 12 year old kid, face and name all over the news for years. He was youngest in NZ to go to prison, for manslaughter, in the end. The general public would not know the name of the others, let alone the actual ki..er. I grew up in the 1960s, living in a very tough area of London, where poverty was the norm. Kids could be a nuisance at times, occasionally cheeky towards the elderly. However, if they were spotted harassing a pensioner by neighbours or the local Bobby, his or her parents were told. More often or not the kid would receive suitable punishment from said parents, who would themselves feel mortified by their offsprings behaviour. Sadly, more often quite the opposite from parents today, who had probably grown up being equally badly parented. What the hell have we become.
