Coming to Rohit Sharma, if we see his peak years his style of play was to build an innings and he was a master in improvisation. He would start cautiously, and more the balls he faced he changed the gears, strike rate kept jumping and made very big scores. However, last few years he has not been able to do that and to get runs the solution he found was to attack and go after the bowling from ball 1. That worked well in ODI and T20 where he set the pace for the batting line-up and made the work of other batters easy. He very well knows that he cannot play long innings anymore and therefore trying to score as much runs possible when at crease. More like a Hit Out or Get Out. But the same approach is not going to work in test cricket.

You were right, 3 overs before end of day's play,the fab 4 used to pull down the shutters, the Generation z or infinite,you can call it what you want, forget the format their playing in and T20 instincts take over. We’re going back to banter era phase. I was for him when he was appointed but since GG took over, we lost against Sri Lanka (who we have been destroying every time) and now lost test series at home after 12 years against an average NZ side. We’re not able to play spin so we attack, just like England. Gill was struggling tod defend against Phillips today, our top order bat unable to defend against a part timer. Why is chance of centuries like in the first game from Pant(actually 99) and Sarfaraz not being discussed as that 200 run partnership would be enough for the lead and Gill looks like he will score big this time and with Jadeja,Ashwin,Sundar to follow and Akashdeep who can stick around for a bit India still looks like they should be able to take the lead even with 4 wickets down at the moment provided there is no batting collapse in the morning/afternoon till the tea like PDogg mentioned. Rohit can be easily replaced as he never had good records in red ball cricket. Rohit is not even par with Rahane/Pujaras's performance in red ball cricket.Rahane also has good overseas performance as compared to Rohit.
