I haven't skated Slappy's yet, but I have skated ace af1 and Indy stage 4, and I actually prefer the stage 4s, but I started skating in the 80s and it could just be nostalgia.
@Bubbytoed7 ай бұрын
I could definitely see it. They do feel different enough for sure.

The Stage 4s are epic, the quick turn is super rad.

I got the slappy inverted. And I love them! I put some bones extra hard bushings cause I'm heavy. But with those bushings it lowers the truck by a few mill. Which was my only complaint about them, the height of the truck. So yea if anybody wants slappy lows, put some bones in em. Great video btw
@scstinger54 ай бұрын
@dyloncarter2883 I’ve found the same thing with Bones bushings on many trucks, just put a washer under the bottom bushing to make up the difference 🤙

I recently switched to Slappy following a few years on Ace and then previously about 25+ years riding Indy. Honestly, the Slappy is the best truck I've skated. Fast, responsive, no kingpin contact (I have the inverted model) but the biggest improvement for me over Ace is no wheel bite. As for Indy, I think they've completely lost their way with all the newer competition. When I look at their truck range now, it's really confusing (Stage 11, Stage 4, Mid...). In my opinion, if they want to win back business they should design a completely new truck
@jamesryan43256 ай бұрын
I had the opposite experience. Crazy wheelbite on Slappy trucks. They lean so much before engaging their turn. Also Stage 4s are crazy underrated trucks.
@fernandoreyes6804 ай бұрын
Indy has definitely lost their direction. Ace is the best feeling truck right now imo, but the wheelbite is becoming a bit of a problem. I might need to try the new Lurpivs tho

@fernandoreyes6804 ай бұрын
@@jamesryan4325 I’m hesitant to try them. I’ve heard a lot of people say Indys in general don’t last as long since they moved to China. And I don’t really love how they look so idk. I kinda want to try Slappys and Lurpivs first. I’ve been skating Ace for the past 3 years

Idk how they do it but they feel the best(independent),even when you put other bushing in
@theoriginalrabbithole6 ай бұрын
For TKP trucks, Ace AF1s are the best. The company was actually founded by former Indy employee, Joey Tershay after the Indy Stage 9 fiasco(new computer-designed truck geometry) and people started buying all the Indy Stage 4-8s they could get their hands on and now the Ebay price for those trucks is or was around $500/set before the recent Indy Stage 4 reissue. Ace are known for their 'turn-on-a-dime' gemometry, which is just what Indy Stage 9 SHOULD have been, which is why transition riders all favor Ace over Indy, even if they're sponsored by Indy. 😆
@HardcorestilllivesАй бұрын
With risers ACE are awesome, buttery turn ❤ but the less wheelbite thing with slappy trucks is perfect.
@Ryoubreathingnow7 ай бұрын
Ive had the opposite experience with slappy trucks. Got wheelbite instantly with them, and they absolutely shred bushings, especially the roadside. Didnt matter if i ran cup or flat washers, they still got cut the hell up because of how much the bushings shifted around in the very minimal bushing seat. Also, while on the topic of bushings, why is it bones or stock bushings for 90% of skaters? Check out riptide bushings.
@Bubbytoed7 ай бұрын
My bushing did get chewed up but it didnt feel like it affected the turning to me. I really liked em but ive heard a lot of people upset about the bushings
@Ryoubreathingnow7 ай бұрын
@Bubbytoed I really wanted to like them. The bushings seats are shallow and allow the bushing to slip over them and shift, pushing to the opposite side your turning and expanding over the washers. The kingpin length, and in result the roadside bushing height probably plays a roll in why the roadside get so chewed up. I run oversized softer bushings boardside, and rely on the extra resistance created by the sides of the bushing contacting the bushing cup in the hanger to prevent most wheelbite. Didnt work in the slightest on these trucks lol.
@Bubbytoed7 ай бұрын
Well im hearing they have overhauled the washers on the trucks to solve the issue.
@chrhadden6 ай бұрын
which rip tide bushings do you use? and thanks i didnt know about them.
@Ryoubreathingnow6 ай бұрын
@chrhadden I'm a bigger guy, 6'4 ~200lbs. On my ace AF1 60s, I use 91a krank fatcones. I use 87a krank fatcones on my old 8.5 tensors, as well as in the paris trucks on my pantheon pranyama(longboard). The fatcones are wider cones that mount with the thinner end of the cone against the hanger. They allow for a nimble center, but create more resistance the more you lean. Think an exponential resistance curve as compared to a linear resistance.

I loved the stage 4s, but recently upped board size to 8.5 so I got some Slappys. So far so good but they feel a bit squirrelier. Tightening them helps but starts destroying the bushings due to the top washer digging in. For some reason tre flips feel weird now too 🤔

Good video! I haven’t tried the sage 4 Indy’s yet but skated them back in the day and loved them back then but remember that there is very little kingpin clearance. I see that Pedro Barros is skating the stage 4’s now, so that’s kinda cool! I really liked Ace trucks but bent every set I ever had (like 6 or 7 sets) so I don’t skate them anymore. Been skating Slappy’s for a while now and like them. They do look a lot like Ace trucks but do not skate anything like Ace. Slappy’s have great bushings, turn a lot deeper than most trucks, don’t get wheel-bite, super good kingpin clearance, and they don’t bend lol! When I jump on my decks with Indy’s or Thunders on them, they don’t feel as good as the Slappy’s do. Unfortunately I haven’t tried the Slappy’s on a vert ramp yet as the nearest vert ramp is 3 hours away from me but my local skatepark has a 10’ deep bowl with about a foot of vert and they feel real good in it. Also seeing Mike Frazier and Gavin Liller just killing it on vert with Slappy’s is I pretty good sign that they are a good vert truck lol!

Ill agree with weight for sure. One thing I did notice is I have been on and off my lurpivs to the point where I have a second setup with lupivs on em. But the thing the stage 4 does that the ace cant is turning without wheel bite. I like big ass wheelsand ace is a gift and a curse sometimes because for a second you are good and then boom wheel bite and you are dead stage 4 dont do that. But them shits look wonky

Dude, you hardly turn on your board. Stage 4s are more for transition not going straight and street - transition and carving is where they really shine. The red bushings have a ton of rebound and are way better than AF1 bushings IMO. They have a quicker and deeper turn but are somehow more stable than Ace. I tried Slappy trucks and they just lean like hell - the turn takes an age to engage- more like Stage 11 Indys. I didn't dig them at all. I still love the Ace carve, I feel they're meant to be ridden loose. Right now my transition set ups are running Stage 4s and Ace 77s. Both amazing trucks IMO.
