Two ways to try: probably best solution is export a PDF, open that in Acrobat, and then export it to Word (Acrobat Pro File menu -> Export). Another method sometimes works is export HTML, and open that in Word. I think the Acrobat method is better result most times.

Could this be altered to cycle through every open file? I have books with 18 documents and would need to run the script every time.

Hi, We recently changed the server, and as a result, all the links are now missing. Could you please advise on how we can automatically relink all the links to the new paths or can we create a script with the new path to relink? Please Help.

Vey useful script, but unfortunately does not fix our case. In our company we have all files in server (network drive), and it takes ages to find the links in subfolders. And we are re-organiziong all our files soon... uh. One perfect solution for this kind of situation would be, if possible, a new kind of script that has a list of locations where the files were and a new list that these links would be redirected to. For example a file in U:/xxx/yyy (where the brand graphics were) would have a new locationY:/zzz/bbb (where the files have been moved) assigned somehow to it. That might be very useful aftef you have typed all the redirection links to it. Does this kind of script exixt already?

No I don't have a script that works like that. Especially not a free script. A solution could be created but I won't be able to. Yes once you select the newly named folder as the links folder to search. InDesign can do it too, without the script (just not subfolders). In Links panel fly-out menu, select "Relink to folder" and choose the newly named folder. But if images are in subfolders, better to use this script because it will find them all.

Hey, excellent script. Windows user here. When i click the button to select the folder I can only select folders on my desktop. The Indesign file resides on a network drive. How can I proceed to select another network folder?

Unfortunately Windows InDesign uses the old-fashioned (nineties?) folder select dialog from within ExtendScript. Yes it is annoying but it does work. "Network" is in the desktop group. Look farther down. Also, it's actually easier to just enter the network location in the input box above the buttons. "\\server\jobs...." (my file server, for example) and keep adding path segments. Each backslash the path builds below the input as suggestions are made based on network objects found.

My other reply is probably the best I can do. I'm not asked to make Word docs out of InDesign layouts. My work goes to PDF and to printing plates for commercial printing.
