My family settled in Ste Famille just across the river on L'Isle d'Orleans. Our ancestral land is directly across the river from Ste Anne de Beaupre. I have been there a half dozen times. This piece always brings strong emotions to me. Love this composition! It brings me home to my roots.

Marvelous work. Never heard it before. Haunting and thrilling at the same time. Love that organ at the Congregational Church. Thank you all for sharing. CVD

I was member of the Cathedral Choir and I often attended his noon concerts, sitting in a special place in the sanctuary where the bass (low D) was strongest. I have this record. Still my #1 favorite.

Wow, this is so beautiful; made me cry. I want this at my funeral! I've been to St. Anne de Beaupre so the arrangement was even more fitting and meaningful.

Lloyd played this so well. It sound great on the chancel skinner organ with its harp, chimes and celesta and the choir clarinet solo at the end and 32' contra bourdon. Heard him play this many times for the noon-days. It must have been a favorite as I do not recall he played any of the other 3 sketches. A similar piece in character he played was "The Cathedral at Midnight".

Some where in my basement among long unopened boxes, I have this very same recording on vinyl. I learned of this recording from a college friend who worked in an audio store and used this music to demo high end stereo system. But, I no longer have a phonograph to play it. I'm really glad you got this up on youtube. Otherwise, I would have needed to buy a photograph to satisfy my long felt urge to hear this piece again. Your transfer from vinyl to digital is superb! I heard this composition performed by organist Roy Darley on the Tabernacle organ in Salt Lake City, late 70s or early 80s. It was a fantastic, unforgettable experience to hear and FEEL(!) a live performance, those 32' pipes shake your body.

Absolutely the best recording. I actually also have this record and it does indeed say on the jacket cover to use caution for the loud low frequency!! My kind of organ music!! One of the most versatile organs and such a nice man when I met him. He used to play Tuesday afternoon concerts at the FCC I'd try to attend as often as I could. RIP, Lloyd!

Glad you guys enjoyed this, and I envy those of you who were lucky enough to meet Mr Holzgraf. Actually was not an easy job to restore this recording and maintain its high quality. For the score, I will upload it to the IMSILP database in the near future, then you'll be able to download and print it. Was not an easy score to find. Regards, Rob

I don't comment often, but I really enjoyed this presentation. In my collection of organ rolls, I own the Aeolian Duo Art roll of Alexander Russell playing this composition, roll # 3216 which was released in 1925. Today, I listened as my Aeolian Opus 1280 played the roll, and then, I listened and read the music on this wonderful KZbin performance. Of course my small residence organ is no match for the huge instrument in the 1st Congregational Church, but still, Russell's recording, and the one here by Holzgraf bear great similarity. Perhaps in the near future, I will post my organ performing this roll as a comparison study. As an early audiophile from the 1950's, I found this recording to be absolutely superb. Thanks for the posting.

Thank you so much Rob! I would be SO GRATEFUL for the score. It's not a difficult piece, sightreadable, and I could learn it in an hour and play it. I am most eager to do so, and there are many Canadian organs that this will work well on, and many Canadian audiences that this work will resonate with!!!!! :-)

I never saw the score until now. Yet I played it at an organ recital about 18 years ago, learning it purely from hearing the recording.

Always loved when Lloyd played this piece. It wouldn’t be considered great literature, but the talents of the organist showed off the organ to great effect! Miss you Lloyd!

The VERY BEST recording E-V-E-R [despite some opinions who couldn't measure up playing the W-R-O-N-G organ! The organ used in the M&K recording playing the two 32ft Diapasons was found to have created sub harmonics only seen when the phonograph needle wildly wavered near the end of the composition. I had that recording. How that might sound on the Wanamaker??

the record pressings were done in Germany (they KNOW HOW) and the two pedal 32ft (in the album picture) sounding between themselves created frequencies about 4-6 hertz. You should have seen the tone arm visually move back and forth You young digital kids don't know what you've missed in true sound recordings.

I simply MUST get a copy of this score somehow! I'm a Canadian after all! This would sound great on the organ at Met United here in Toronto when I play my next concert there!

I want desperately to enjoy this, but it's nearly inaudible, and having been in FCCLA, I can only imagine what it actually sounded like.
