Problem was you need valuable field experience for development of engine to be used in super sonic jets. No country directly engineered engines for super sonic jet!!! Before Modi none of the government pushed drdo & air force to put an engine in production use. Various reasons were there for that. Congress government always eyed the money to be made in buying foreign equipment example Bofors etc. Modi government is encouraging and backing domestic manufacturers. They have green signalled Kaveri for UAVs and drones. I think this will get Kaveri on the field. Then mark my words in next few years we will see Tejas and even more high powered aircraft using them. Our engineers are second to none they were on wrong path before but they are on right path now!!!
