Having 3 carriers is essential because it ensures at least one carrier is always available in active deployment. Navies around the world follow the rule of thirds, I.e 1/3 of the fleet will be in active deployment, 1/3 will be in repair/maintenance & 1/3 will be getting ready to deploy or coming back for refitment

We already have "unsinkable Aircraft carriers" there, right at the mouth of the Malacca straits. But apart from that we need 3 Carriers to cover the Western front and large IOR. Also 3 Carriers doesn mean all 3 will be active at the same time. Its highly likely that one could be under maintenance at any given time.

Currently the Indian Navy has 42 Mig29K, just enough for 2 Carriers. 26 Rafales have been approved and order will be placed within the next 1-2 years. All deliveries will be completed before 2030. The 3rd Carrier will come in the early or mid 2030s. India is also developing the TEDBF, that should be ready by 2035. 100+ will be ordered.
