India : Forex vs Debt (1970 - 2023)

India’s external debt, at US$ 620.7 billion as at end-March 2022, grew by 8.2 per cent over US$ 573.7 billon as at end-March 2021. While 53.2 per cent of it was denominated in US dollar, Indian rupee denominated debt, estimated at 31.2 per cent, was the second largest. External debt as a ratio to GDP fell marginally to 19.9 per cent as at end-March 2022 from 21.2 per cent a year ago. Foreign currency reserves as a ratio to external debt stood slightly lower at 97.8 per cent as at end-March 2022 than 100.6 per cent a year ago.

That's why BJP's govt is so important ... India Atal Ji's tenure between 1999-2004 India's reserves increased & overtaken debt for the 1st time ....Then again the debt rises in the 2nd tenure of Manmohan Singh Ji ....Again during Modi's tenure in 2019 , India's reserves again overtook the debt ...Now it's almost equal , soon reserves will overtake the debt in coming future with India's high exports in last 3-4 yrs

Have you considered why the hell India got into a economic crisis that we had to mortgage gold to get a bail out package from the IMF ? And we just didn't have to mortgage gold,we had to physically ship it out of India . The reason for this crisis were the disastrous socialist and anti free market policies followed by the Congress for 44 years since 1947. The private sector has to struggle to survive . Red tape, investor unfriendly policies , outdated laws and rules and corruption were a disaster for the economy.

What bullshit External debt is part of forex reserves Forex reserves come from capital account (liability like debt investment) and current account (asset like net exports of goods services and remittances).
