In this edition of Tarikh, Nikhil talks about field development of Statistics in India. Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis has been considered the father of modern statistics in India. Mahalanobis is best remembered for the Mahalanobis distance, a statistical measure and innovation in Survey Sampling methods. He was one of the members of the first Planning Commission of free India and devised the Second Five Year plan.
