I had the opportunity to meet Retd. BSF IG Goluk Majumdar in person in the late 1990s. He was close family friend. My father (also retired IG) and mother both served in BSF as doctors. While I knew he participated in the 1971 war. This piece is quite revealing on how intimately involved in the early days.

It is very sad that despite Hindu Bengalies of East Pakistan and India giving their soul and life for the liberation of Bangladesh has got nothing in return after the liberation of Bangladesh. The same Zia ur Rehman and his Begum when they became the President and Prime Minister of Bangladesh persecuted Bengali Hindus like the jews of Germany. The Liberation War was secular but Bangladesh after liberation has become a fundamentalist country , its secular constituition has been replaced by a Islamist one. I am witness to the war as a child and still remember many things including soldier movements by train and huge inflow of refugees and their perilous journey to India and untold suffering. I know our family friend' son who was grievously injured during barbardment by Pakistani Air Force while he was on duty as a BSF soldier. Some of the paratroopers were our family friends who had participated in the war. Iwas also witness to the Pakistani prisioners of war. The whole atmosphere was charged with solidarity with Banladeshi people. But today we find Bangladeshees have no such feelings about India and not even for Bengali Hindus of Bangladesh and India.
