concept is not of Sweden it is literally local and directly adopted from Mahabharata and Puranas. there are 8 Lokpalas in Puranas. 10 Prajapatis found it insufficient to have drect control and establish Dharma, so they appointed 8 Lokpalas, who'd reside on the tallest Mount Sumeru, in 8 directions and help in maintaining smooth functionality of Dharma (law/duty/ethics/morality/goodness/order) in society. In urdu they call scientists as science daan but we call them vaigyanik coz we already had concept of vigyan in sanskrit hence we also have the word for it unlike other languages og the world.
