There has been a Pashtun Jirga-e-Hind from 1834 in India. It is based in Kolkata from the time of the British - Afghan wars and there is no question as the Pathan gentleman points out that Pathans were strongly involved in the freedom movement. Watching this Pashtun still preserving his roots and cultural identity, which have been there for thousands of years, in an infectious environment like Pakistan, fills me with joy and hope. But at the same time, I find it very depressing to think about how these Pashtuns, who know their history, might be feeling out of place among these radicalized individuals with no history or culture (full of daddy issues).
