Avirup Sethi Ah if only subtitles were enough to understand comedy. The timing, slang, subtle dialogs cant ever make one understand comedy. Else Hollywood dialog oriented comedies could have been understood with Tamil/Hindi subtitles alone. :D Watch a movie called Naduvula Konjam Pakatha Kanom. And I can suggest many more. Also its typical of Hindi watching people to think every claim by a South Indian is a display of fake pride. Actually Comedy in South especially Tamil, Telugu is extremely important. Here there are exclusive comedy actors and writers who write only the comedy portions for a movie. Top comedy actors earn 1 lakh per day. Unlike Hindi where actors try to do comedy and people like Johhny Lever have a short time span inspite of being talented. Here they have to produce a new comedian each decade and there is immense competition. There are movies which run only depending comedy. Housefull, Housefull 2, No Entry which are being praised for its comedy are from Tamil movies and the fun fact is that they were not even such big comedy movies here. Since the growth of short films on KZbin, there is a new crop of directors who are taking it to next level with intelligent and subtle comedy. This big essay is to explain that I was not joking about comedy :D

Avirup Sethi Ah should have guessed you are one of those who still looks for an "Us v/s them" meaning in every comment. What I tried to provide was a difference in the way movie industry works in both areas. FYI, I was born in Mumbai and later came to Chennai and watch 4 regional movies, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam. Anyways I dont waste time in proving facts ;-)
