I have few points in respect of those days cricket played specially in sub continent. 1.Sanath Jaysuriya was uncontrollable batsman , he had no fear ... magically he could disappear balls hitting over long on, mid on, mid off, straight, through the cover . He was incomparable pinch hitter batsman against India ( i.e Srinath,Prasad,Kumble) and Indian bowlers were like throwing football to him...they had no plan how to remove Jaysuriya .. Jaysuriya with Kaluwitharana was more aggressive . Those days were for them to break record how fast the scoreboard move 50,100 runs were just numbers to them. 2. Then it was competition between Azharuddin and Desilva who was more responsible in the middle order . 3.India meant only Tendulkar ..if Tendulkar score 100 then India felt they are in safe , and if he failed , 50% of the match seemed India lose. 4. Having beaten severally Indian bowlers did not have any plan B to restrict runrate or picking up wicket, Prasad's body language was the most casual . 5. There was no reliability on middle order batsman of India during these period . 6.No adequate or proper allrounder was available in the Indian team who could come up as dependable 4 th bowler . These were the points I could notice during this time.

I think we lost the match the moment Prasad was selected at the selectors meeting and later pitted against the explosive Jayasurya. India just did not have the bowlers to contain Jaysurya and Kalu. We desperately needed Zaheer Khan, Ishant Sharna, Ajit Agarkar or Irfan Pathan in advance. Kumble also was a overrated bowler although he is a gentleman and a fine human. But most of the time he was hammered by even mediocre batsmen around the world despite his confident body language.
