Kaveri-2 engine should target dry thrust of 65kN- 70kN and 100kN-110kN with after burner. Then it can act as powerplant for other aircraft programmes like ORCA, TEDBF and AMCA until the 130kN class engine is developed thus reducing dependency on US for engines. Also taking help from companies interested co-developing engine for AMCA in this KAVERI MK2 will let us know about their expertise, willingness/interest and motives as well.

Even if the government spends 4-5% of GDP on education, it won't make a big difference unless we address deeper issues. To be honest I’m very optimistic of Kaveri 2 when it comes out bcos a lot of indigenous developments and breakthroughs have happened post the development of Kaveri . If v have managed to create an engine capable of generating an after burner thrust upwards of 75 KN despite all the bumbling and lack of facilities such as a local FTB and not roping in the best indigenous minds like our pvt sector startups and researchers from our top Science institutes I would say that the future is very very hopeful for us . Part 2 will have a much quicker development time line thanks to the learnings and the maturation of the engine ecosystem . I’m confident that Kaveri 2 will achieve the 95 KN range quite easily though im hoping for us hitting the benchmark of the 120+ KN range . If the latter happens that would be truly game changing for country since the bigger powers would then be forced to induct us into the elite grp of military tech powers . That will give us a lot of leverage and bargaining power in terms of geo politics and also economic deal making. Let’s c what happens .

95kn with afterburner is good for 4.5 gen but still useless for 5th gen. 5th gens like f35 produces 150kn+, same with su57. Ws-10 in j20 makes 140kn+. They all have dry thrust of around 70-80kn

Good India is going in good pace regarding indigenous jet engines Kaveri for mk1a has been nearly completed and trials going on. Means we will not need GE F404 now . If government works and focus consistently in Kaveri mk 2 program we can even eliminate our dependency on GE f 414 which will be great for our Tejas mk 2 and TEDBF programs. So instead of distributing freebies government must dump significant additional funds into our R&D and if necessary take help from Saffron or Russia and finish Kaveri 2 program as soon as possible within months

GTRE should first perfect the Kaveri jet engine they are currently working on. And then they can put resources on developing next version of Kaveri engine with higher thrust. A bullet proof 70-75KN Kaveri Engine with After Burner can pave way for reliable indigenous twin engine jets of Rafale class and drones. Bharat badly needs a good indigenous fighter jet and drone that can project power over its neighbors to keep them in check.

Let us not miss the most important fact and the number one drawback of Kaveri engine! The first version is capable of producing almost the same thrust as the GE F404 engines, both dry and with after burner. Infact Jane's All the World's Aircraft: Development & Production 2017-2018 edition on Page 244 says that Kaveri was able to produce a dry thrust of 52 kN and an afterburner thrust of 81 kN. In comparison, the GE 404 (not the India specific version) has a dry thrust of 48.9 kN and an afterburner thrust of 78.7 kN. The Snecma M88 used on Rafale has a dry thrust of 50 kN and an after burner thrust of 75 kN. But the problem with Kaveri is the 145 Kg of extra weight that the Kaveri engine (1180 Kgs) holds in comparison wit GE F404 (1035 Kgs) and if you compare wit Snecma M88 (897 Kgs), the weight difference is a staggering 283 Kgs. To reduce the weight of Kaveri significantly, we need more research, testing labs, money and manufacturing ability in the field of material sciences. This takes more time and consistent funding.This is why we are desperately trying to collaborate with one of these engine power houses for a joint development with a shared IP, so that we can skip the research part and directly make use of the research done by the partner on material sciences and put their low weight material directly into production for the jointly developed engine. Unfortunately, this is something that many countries and their companies, for various reasons would not agree with that easily. GTRE is doing its best, within the available resources to maximize the efficiency and if you check Saurav Jha's twitter post on July 1, 2024, Kaveri has already been modified efficiently and it is now close to its design performance. In other words, it has already become a 80 kN engine.

Collaborating with Saudi Arabia does have only one advantage i.e. money flow and nothing they are advanced in any weapon technology. 4. JF-17 Block 4 matching in timelines with Tejas Mk2, it is just their new J-35 which pose a threat. 5. South Asian countries mostly who are in clashes with China have all shown interest in all kinds of Indian machinery and weapons. 6. Bhutan is just in diplomatic talks with China fix their border dispute. They don't have military power to even defend them in case of a big attack overnight. 7. IAF's Industry Outreach Programs only has resulted in small arms. Hope in coming years, the private sector shows interest in big weaponry. 8. Rightfully needed by Navy to eye for indigenous UAV for operations, depending on USA for MQ-9Bs needs to be reduced. 9. GTRE should rightfully get clearance for KAVERI-2 to match capabilities of F404 and F414. I have a gut feeling that the F414 could also face significant delays like the F404. The dry thrust needs to match 58kN, wet thrust of 98kN and also higher bypass ratio with almost 100 kg low in weight to F414.

It's surprising that it takes that long for them to decide to build a new core. Only after the US is considered unreliable in both the engine contracts have they woken up from their slumber. You expect something built in the 1980's with material technology from that era to have the requirements you need today. Height of stupidity. For the past 1.5 years no f404 or f414 has been delivered and we are seeking funds for kaveri 2. And mk2 will start production on 2028 2029. Can mk1a compete with j35 thunder 3 and 4 Chinese j20 and Chinese 6th generations. Please expedite 75 su57 or su75 under government to government deal and clear MRFA typhoon 114. Su30mki will start production in 2027. Also typhoon engine produces 90kn ton of thrust. Kaveri2 will take time. Take typhoon engine under ToT also with HAL for our mk2 besides kaveri2 engines. Ask France to supply used mirage to india instead of giving it to Ukrainians. Seek help or cooperation from L&T to expedite all other structural works so that once kaveri shows positive results integrate it ASAP. Good luck. India is lagging behind at a tremendous pace encouraging China to take land in ladhak. Blame it on USA for ditching India for not providing engines of 404 for our mk1a. In future please be careful while giving them partnerships in AMCA or mk2. Every part should be indigenously produced and encouraged. Good luck.
