And this produces this vicious cycle of feeling overwhelmed. If they started doing little steps. If they clean one room, then their house. They will feel better, more energized or calm, collected. Because when they look at their dirty house they feel defeated (consciously or subconsciously), just complete passive living. Sorry, not living - "surviving". They are surviving day to day. And that is why their life goes in such a snail pace, pretty much nothing changes and it has been 10 years. So. The Jenny cooking with the mom scene is absolutely sad. I've been in that situation albeit not as intense or hostile but it still makes me sad for Jenny (even though she's a senior citizen). I used to live with my ex and his mom and dad who are all Mexican and his mom and dad only spoke spanish. His dad was only around once every few days or so and he and I were cool but his mom was insane. She is a hoarder and very controlling. She and I would try to communicate to each other in either broken english or broken spanish and it was just barely enough to live by. I'll never forget the day she told me how to make a box kraft macaroni. She tried to get me to NOT STRAIN THE NOODLES. That was when I was like ok dude we can't be in the kitchen at the same time if I'm just making macaroni for myself. It's a really tough situation and is obviously escalated if it's being documented and filmed for television. So I definitely feel for Jenny even though at the time of my experience I was only 18-20 years old.

As a Canadian I've dated three brown men in my life, I can really sympathize with Jenny. First ones family was very kind and accepting, taught me to make cha, second one was also kind and accepting but only because they loved their son enough to love what he wanted. He was a mamas boy and I brought tension between him and his mother. His grandparents cursed me out a lot, so I decided it was best to just let it go. Third one got disowned because I am not of the same religion. Its painful not only to be not accepted, but also upsetting to bring barriers between families. I want nothing but to learn and be taught how I could be better, I always wondered what I am missing that other girls will bring. I dunno if I'd call Jenny toxic. They get along because they're both emotionally immature. Neither of them are great at handling their emotions during conflict; they just have different unhealthy responses. Summit avoids and lies, while Jenny gets mad and tries to make threats or play victim. Neither are great, but she's not significantly worse than Summit or his parents 🤷🏽‍♀️ In all fairness though, it's not unreasonable for her to be upset. She's not in a favorable position. Her life/relationship is constantly being dictated by people and cultural practices that are out of her control. Yet, she still sticks by him and does her best to make it work. I personally wouldn't put myself in her situation, but if I did, it's hard to say it wouldn't make me a little crazy, too 😵‍💫

He never went to America because not everyone can get a tourist visa. Countries have all these bilateral travel agreements that result in you not being required to get special visas and instead your passport basically opens all those travel doors for you without having to do any extra applications because the agreements were already made to allow you into certain other countries. Its like why Americans can go so many places without specially applying for a tourist visa, same with Western European countries. However, the citizens of countries without those agreements (typically third world countries) need to actually apply for these travel visas, which costs money, and aren't always approved.

Emotional maturity is not at all correlated with age when both people are over the age of 25. In such a supposedly progressive society it’s still so hypocritical as men are not vilified the way women are when they date younger. Women are still vilified even by other western women who are spewing 18th century Victorian bollocks which stem from patriarchal views that women are valued by her fertility. I have lots of friends in their 20s who struggled with fertility issues and older friends in their late 40s who had no issues getting pregnant and had healthy pregnancies. Fertility statistics are outdated and more recent evidence says it’s mostly to do with genetics. You never know how long you have on this earth regardless of your health or age.
