In this lecture you will learn about monsoon circulation in India. In India we have two different types of monsoon i.e., SouthWest monsoon and NorthEast monsoon. South-East monsoon contributes more than 70% to total precipitation in India and during this monsoon period which happen during June to September, most of the Indian state gets rainfall except Eastern coast of Telangana and Tamil Nadu. During winter, the North East monsoon wind move from northern countries towards equator carrying moisture from Bay of Bengal, precipitates in Tamil Nadu and Easter Telangana. So, in India, two monsoon prevails.
SOI (Souther Oscillation Index) is the global ocean current comprises of EL NINO and LA NINA. This happens due to warming up and cooldown of Eastern Pacific respectively for EL NINO and LA NINA respectively. When EL NINO happens, the ocean currents and global circulation moves towards Eastern pacific and more precipitation recorded in North America, whereas in India and Australia, deficit rainfall happens and draught like situation happens in EL NINO years. LA NINA is just opposite of EL NINO.
