its also the sign of have my memories with you but in our pakistan culture whenever is going we do say like " good bye " but we give dua if we don't have something , otherwise we just give something which for him should be needy , like traveling you need food so sometimes we give food with dua . and sometimes we give clothes , so the scarf is obviously the last sign of his memory to give her so she can be warm in cold winter . like its simple that am giving you something which will make your travel easy and protected .
