Everything when studied and analyzed properly it starts making sense and sometimes we can't comprehend the creators rules so easily and we abide by them until we eventually get the proper understanding from a logical perspective. Regarding, Qurbani - It means to sacrifice. And, one can be considered making a sacrifice only if its close to the heart and its separation and impact is felt. Therefore, you've to look after them, love them and treat them properly so that you develop that affection for these animals before you sacrifice them not for fun, money or to please anyone but GOD - the one who created it in the first place, the actual owner of these creations to whom everything belongs. You're basically getting rewarded for sacrificing something that was never truly yours which is again a mercy shown from the almighty. It is a chance for you to prove your love and trust on the Almighty that you're willing to sacrifice for it. Historically: It was a test for the Prophet Abraham. He was commanded to sacrifice his own beloved son for the almighty and he agreed to do so even though he cried tears of blood and yet determined to make the sacrifice because his lord ordered him to do so. And, the almighty who is most just and merciful obviously won't have let that happen and just when he was about to make the sacrifice the command was to stop and he was told that he passed the test of his Lord and he has been gifted a Lamb rather to sacrifice. Hence, which is why Muslims across the world make the same sacrifice during Eid ul Adha. Also, the concept is to distribute its yield among the poor and the needy and only keep a portion of it for yourself(family etc.) Now, logically, there are meat eaters around the globe and not everyone is a muslim. In fact the Christianity is the mostly populated one. So, logically speaking even if there was no such tradition of Muslims sacrificing animals, they'd still be eaten and purchased by people who are fond of meat. However, its only Muslims who're obligated to buy it for poor and make sure they get to eat it too and nourish themselves which otherwise isn't affordable for them. Also, biologically if we assume for a moment that entire human population stops eating any sort of animal meat then have you considered how'd the food chain be affected by this? Where would all these animals be wandering forever and co-exist among humans? No one can say with complete accuracy that it won't lead to a catastrophic impact on the nature. We're part of a food chain just like other animals who live by eating other animals to maintain the balance. Lastly, we are the only creation of the almighty that we know of in this world who has a variety of teeth types to felicitate the chewing and eating of meat products (canines and molars etc.) No other creation has a digestive system and teeth both that supports the fact that humans are supposed to consume what was provided by the Almighty as a food for us. If humans were to love every living organism then we would die of starvation as all our food sources are actually a life in its own dimension. So, lets accept who we are in a biological sense and accept the fact that the creator knows us better than we do ourselves as we didn't create us but we are mere studying what was created and what all features do we have from all perspectives. In fact people who live in tribes know no common language as us also understood that their survival is on the animals around them without anyone telling them to do so they figured it out. Therefore, we cannot just ridicule the whole system just because we don't understand it fully yet or we think we know better than the creature. Whether you're an atheist or a person of religion - You can't simply prove that eating them is wrong and if eating them isn't wrong then sacrificing is the only legit way to do the charity as well purify your soul by means of sacrificing bad within you. If all humans learned the art of sacrificing then it'd be easy for us to give up all bad things for the sake of almighty but the fact only a percentage understands its concept fully we've yet to master that skill.
