It is an authentic story of a real incidence because the glorious Qur'an narrates it in detail. They - As-haab-e Kahaf [people of the cave], went into the cave [kahaf] to hide and protect themselves. Allah (swt) caused them to sleep for more than 300 years as Sign of His power and to protect them from the evil - Daqyanus. The story is available in all Qur'anic Tafseer books with full details.
