Scouts have a well deserved reputation for hard to bleed rear brakes. After the dealer did a fluid change on my 2017 Sixty I had some sponginess. When I had to replace the rear brake light switch I put a Speed Bleeder brand bleed screw in so I could do a one man bleed. When I got done I had the best pedal since I bought the bike. I don't know if Speed Bleeders would work that well for every Scout rear brake, but it made a believer out of me.

Thanks, for this. I realized my rear brake peg seemed really spongy, which made me wonder if that's supposed to be that way. Search brought me here. Now that I know that's not normal I'll be bleeding them with my vacuum bleeder in a few. 🙏

Hi Matt, glad the video helped, let me know if the hand pump works as it may help others in the future 👍 Thanks for watching

@@melsmotors I've always had issues with the hose sealing around the nipple. Air bypasses. I tried the old school method of loosening it, pump the brake, tighten, repeat. Way easier if you take the caliper off and can do both with one person pretty quickly. However, I'm going to buy a cheap reservoir cover and make a plate similar to yours that I can attach my pump to at a later time. I'll come back to update on if it works.

@melsmotors Any idea why the attempts to bleed normally and reverse didnt work? But reverse with the vacuum pump worked?

I can't actually see inside the unit to tell you exactly why, but the ABS unit sits under the bike and you can't actually see it, I would best guess that the location is the issue as it sits below the master and the caliper creating a U tube effect and trapping the air! 👍

@@melsmotors ok thanks! I didnt realize this was an ABS model. I've read several things from different owners where they lose rear brake function randomly. Seems like there must be some kind of design issue with a weak point allowing air intrusion somewhere. Maybe the caliper mounted pressure switch... not sure
