Hello Abbas Sir.. enjoying your blogs. So happy to see you in my home city.. In 2013 Chennai looked bad and that’s only because the Chennai metro was being built and it is primarily an underground metro compared to other cities in India which have little or no underground sections. So they had to dig up all the major Roads if Chennai and it looked bad between 2010 and 2020. Once the underground work was completed, they cleaned up the mess and restored the look and feel of the city back to normal in around 2021. That’s why the city looks good again.

Madras is the first official city corporation with a mayor and a municipality outside England. It is the second oldest municipal corp in the world (after London) !!! set up by the British. We may not like everything they did, but the one thing they were good at infrastructure and it shows nowhere better than in Chennai’s older parts that were known as Madras ❤️ wide 6 lane roads and beautiful infra that was built between 370 years to 100 years ago.. the Chennai central station was the southern terminus of prepartition indias most prestigious train, the GRAND TRUNK EXPRESS. The northern terminus was Lahore (there was a stop in Delhi) !! Even today the GT express is considered one of the most prestigious trains of India but since partition happened, the northern terminus is now New Delhi.

I am a Punjabi Hindu.. our fore father's were from Lahore..My Great grand father moved to India overnight due to the partition leaving everthing there...He had a Rai Bahadur title..and he became a common man once he and entire family moved to Punjab....though we also went through emotional physical and monetary turmoil but now we all are well settled..
